King Cody VI did a fantastic job at our first visit to Blush Nail Boutique in Sun Prairie, WI. He stayed in his space, did beautiful downs, sits, & stands on his mat, & kept his head on my arm through my whole pedicure for comfort & support. He didn’t want the second armrest blocking him from working, so I kept it up so he could rest his head on my arm & keep me safe. Everyone in the nail salon smiled at him & the staff was happy to meet him as they knew I was heading to team training the last time I was there in January. King Cody VI was wonderful for both my pedicure & dip nail appointment. Such a good boy! 🤩

I did learn to shake my kibble bag with tin foil on my fingers to open it & shake out a few treats without touching them, then cue King Cody VI to get one, he was very happy! Lol. I couldn’t do that at the nail station since my hands were occupied, but he understood & either laid down or sat calmly hanging out. 😍

We did have an encounter right away, an elderly couple was leaving & the woman asked if he was friendly. I said yes & that he’s my service dog, & she started petting him without permission. Her husband immediately yelled, “You can’t touch him, he’s a service dog; it says DO NOT PET!” I told him thank you & that I said he was friendly. I felt bad he yelled at her but I understood why as he was respecting us & our space while we waited to check in.

Later on, two girls came in at different times with their moms & instantly got excited seeing a service dog by the pedicure stations. One mom peeked over & gently explained what a service dog is & that he’s working. It was so nice to hear parents teaching their kids. 💛

And honestly, today felt like a tiny retreat for me. I’ve been in so much unexplained additional chronic pain & symptoms since November 2025, which is why I’ve been going through so much testing lately as it’s taking a toll on my syndrome & overall health. I haven’t had a pedicure or dip nails since January, right before I left for team training. Having a little “me time” again felt really good & it was great practice for King Cody VI before our spa resort getaway for my sister‑in‑law’s birthday at the end of April!

Hello everypawdy!

It’s me, King Cody VI, your favorite superhero with the extra wiggly tail! I’m doing BIG happy zoomies today because 7 whole weeks ago I was matched with my human, Raquel. The moment we met, I knew she was my person! Now we’re a full‑time superhero team. She’s my best friend, my partner in all things, and together we’re basically a dynamic duo of superhero awesomeness. ❤️

I help her every single day, keep her safe, and together we advocate and educate the world about service dog teams with kindness and respect. Big mission. Big heart. Big tail wags. We spread awareness, answer questions, and make the world a better place for other teams like us. Pretty cool for a dog, right?

I wanted to share some photos and videos from Match Day, the day my whole life changed. I also gained a dad named Casey, and let me tell you… he is the BEST dog dad EVER! 🤩

When we went to our suite that first night, I walked in and my doggy brain almost exploded! There was a huge fluffy bed and so MANY toys waiting just for ME! They didn’t know what I’d love, so they got… well… basically one of everything. I love my bed, all those toys, AND all the new toys they keep bringing home!

And then… when I got to my new house? Ohhh friends… that’s when I discovered the real treasure. My home has HUGE stacking toy bins filled with toys of every shape, squeak, and crinkle. I thought I’d entered the magical land of Endless Toys, it’s like living in doggy Disneyland!

I get to share them with my siblings, Gimli and Winnie the Pooh. We play together, trade toys, and run the toy kingdom as a team. They’re amazing, and I’m so lucky to have them.

I’ll introduce you to them soon, they’re just as special as me and we make a pretty awesome trio!

Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday full of treats, naps, and squeaky things.

Today we went to UW Health University Hospital in downtown Madison but this time it was for my husband, Casey. As we walked in, someone behind us pushing a relative in a wheelchair said, “I wish I had an emotional support animal.” The woman with him corrected him, saying it was a service dog, but he still insisted he wanted one. All I could think was: King Cody VI is an accredited ADI service dog, NOT an emotional support animal. Nobody wants a serious, chronic, hidden disability with layers of medical conditions. I wish I was healthy. It’s hard hearing comments from people who don’t understand the difference, especially since ESAs do NOT have public access rights or task training.

Casey said some people just aren’t educated on the difference & many think ESAs have the same rights, which is why advocating for myself & other legitimate service dog teams is so important.

Back to our visit… We navigated a new part of the hospital & King Cody VI did a fabulous job. We saw Casey’s world‑renowned neurologist who specializes in MS. Casey was originally placed in an isolated syndrome because he never had a recurrence. His lesions shrunk in October 2015 and disappeared in October 2020, allowing him to stop AVONEX shots. When we got the news in 2015, he came home & proposed to me that day. In 2020 after losing loved ones to cancer & I almost died from having two major surgeries & a correction surgery, we needed that good news. That’s why we call him “Casey Miracle on Ice.”

Today Casey’s neurologist officially cleared him & he no longer in an isolated syndrome! He received a clean bill of health & I am SO happy for him!!! I’ve always been his biggest supporter & cheerleader. Before my health declined & before my CRPS diagnosis, I took care of him through every treatment. When he got better, my health declined, & he has never left my side, & I’ve never left his. This is what true love looks like. We lived “in sickness & in health” long before our vows. He is my best friend & I love him with my whole heart & soul.

Tomorrow we’re going out to dinner to celebrate & share the news with our family. It’s rare to see someone’s body heal itself & my husband is living proof. ❤️

This morning Casey, King Cody VI, and I went out to breakfast with my in‑laws, brother‑in‑law, sister‑in‑law, and our two nephews. This was our first time going out to eat in a large group as King Cody VI and I are still acclimating together and doing a fantastic job. King Cody VI hasn’t officially met my brother‑in‑law and his family yet but he will in the coming weeks at our Welcome Home Party where everyone will celebrate us as a graduate team and welcome King Cody VI into our family! As a group, they’ll get a total of 15–20 minutes to give him all the love without his equipment on, and then back to work he goes.

At breakfast, King Cody VI did an amazing job staying in a down or putting his head in my lap when he sensed I needed him during my flare‑ups, as I was sweating through my clothes from the intense chronic pain and symptoms. The restaurant was full, very busy, and he stayed 100% focused on my needs. A little girl saw King Cody VI and her parents said, “He is a working dog.” Not long after, she began making dog barking noises and blowing kisses from her booth, trying hard to get his attention. I’m so very proud of my superhero for ignoring her and everyone else around us. Great job, King Cody VI. 🥰

♿️ Accessibility Note:
Everyone at Elie’s Café in Madison, WI was very friendly and the food was delicious! They do have a few ADA parking spots and the parking lot isn’t huge, so you’ll want to get there early. The doors are not automatic, so you will need assistance getting inside. Feel free to call if you need help, I’m sure the nice staff will assist you. 🙂

Part 5
Our last fun trip of the day was the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison to end our date! I checked the zoo’s website and they allow service dogs only. King Cody VI did a phenomenal job navigating through the very busy and crowded zoo. Everyone who passed us either looked and smiled or was educating their children, who were so excited to see a service dog working.

King Cody VI got to see the sea lions swimming close to the glass, but he stayed focused on me. When we left for the Badger exhibit, Casey caught a boy reach out and put his fingers on King Cody VI’s tail. Casey immediately said “Good boy,” and when I asked what happened, he told me King Cody VI ignored the kid touching his tail and kept his focus on me. I was like, awe… King Cody VI, you’re amazing!

At the Badger exhibit, two nice ladies offered us their view since I’m short. When I thanked them, one of the ladies said, “Your service dog is great and so well‑behaved, that’s a true service dog.” I am so very proud of us and we did a fantastic job in the zoo.

King Cody VI soaked up the sun and we enjoyed seeing all the animals. People passing by, with and without kids, were trying to guess if he was a Lab or a Golden Retriever but nobody approached us and everyone gave us our space.

It was a lovely time and I’m so happy we went. I haven’t been to the zoo in such a long time, I didn’t get to go at all last year because I was on bed rest and recovery for over 8 months. So this was really a great outing that my husband Casey and I needed! 🥰

After we got home, I took some pain medicine and King Cody VI preformed deep pressure therapy to help me while I laid under my heated blanket and on my heated pad to try to calm down my syndrome flare-ups. Great job today King Cody VI! ❤️

♿️ Accessibility Note: There is ADA parking in each lot or by the beach but it’s limited, so you’ll want to get there early or you’ll be circling for a while. The restaurant has automatic doors but it does get crowded, and people were kind enough to give us space.

The gift shop had a cool WI glass cup listing the different zoo animals and the kiosk checkout was new. The shop is crowded with small spaces to work around. Another successful adventure in the books!

Thank you all for following our journey. Have a great rest of your weekend!

Part 4
Afterwards it was time to fuel our souls and grab a bite, so we decided to eat at the Nitty Gritty on the west side of Madison.

This was King Cody VI’s first time visiting a Nitty. He did an awesome job in our booth, hanging out in a sit, stand, or down position depending on my needs. King Cody VI always senses when I’m flaring up due to my chronic pain and I’m so thankful for his ability to recognize when I need him the most. There were some birthday celebrations going on, so that was fun!

I also decided to see what would happen if I “dropped” food on the floor, and we are very happy to report that he ignored the feta cheese and chicken. He even had his foot next to the chicken piece in a down position and didn’t sniff or attempt to go for it.
Service dogs should never eat dropped food on the ground, and King Cody VI showed everyone in there what a true accredited service dog looks like.

We are so proud of him, it just shows how strong our bond is and how trained he is for his work. For a job well done he got some kibble and Casey didn’t pick up the food pieces until we were ready to go, which confirms how fantastic of a service dog King Cody VI is! 🥰 The staff were all so friendly toward us during our visit. Our server David was super nice and provided awesome customer service. 😎 We had a lovely lunch and fueled our souls for our last outing!

♿️ Accessibility Note: There is ADA parking, but the lot is very close to the restaurant, so if you can’t get an ADA spot, you still don’t have to go far. Both doors are not ADA, so if you need assistance call ahead unless someone with you can open the door.

The food here is amazing, just look at my salad photo! Nom nom!

Part 3
Next we headed to Mounds Pet Food Warehouse on the Madison West Side. With the awesome sale on King Cody VI’s dog food, we decided to pick up another bag. You might see more videos of us in future visiting different Mounds locations. 🥰 This was our first time visiting this location and King Cody VI did a fabulous job working. He is truly an awesome service dog and I’m so thankful we are matched together. Not once did he pull or get distracted. He even sat pretty in front of the dog cookies and didn’t even notice!

♿️ Accessibility Note: Madison West Side Mounds has plenty of ADA parking spots and very wide, large automatic sliding doors for easy access. The store is clutter‑free and easy to navigate throughout with no issues. 10/10 King Cody VI’s stamp of approval for access. 🐾

Part 2
After the farmers market we headed home quick to drop off our goodies.

Then we drove to Costco in Middleton to see my brother and do some shopping. We came across an interesting stand called Rebel Green a family‑owned company based in Mequon, Wisconsin (north of Milwaukee) and it’s a woman‑owned business. We asked questions and decided to buy their products since they’re cruelty free products and certified by the Leaping Bunny program.

We talked about King Cody VI, the tasks he performs, and Canine Companions. We gave them one of our mini brochures and our Instagram name so they can follow our journey. Afterwards we grabbed some dog toys and headed to the busy checkout line. King Cody VI sat like a good boy the whole time. 🐾🐕‍🦺🐾

Part 1
Wow today was a beautiful day, sunny skies and temps in the 70’s! We had to get out and enjoy it, so our first stop was the indoor Sun Prairie Farmers Market. When we got there, we saw a few non‑service dogs outside. One woman didn’t have her dog under control and it was yanking her around, and another dog was laying on a bench with its owner behaving and relaxing. It was cute. King Cody VI did a fantastic job ignoring them, kept his eyes on me, and walked in.

Once inside we supported our local businesses and met a wonderful veteran and his wife selling tasty drinks. We bought a 4‑pack for my in‑laws and he asked if he could pray for me. We blessed each other and wished him a speedy recovery from his upcoming surgery. We gave him a mini Canine Companions brochure as we talked about us as a team. They said King Cody VI is a handsome boy and so focused on his handler, and they look forward to seeing us again.

Our next vendor was next to the veterans booth, the woman was super nice and said she’d been watching King Cody VI & I from the veteran’s booth. She complimented us as a team and praised him. Next we grabbed a breakfast burrito and some tamales, and while my items were getting bagged, I accidentally dropped a piece of kibble under the table. King Cody VI didn’t even attempt to go for it. He stayed focused instead of pulling me from my walker, and I rewarded him. Such a great boy!

Lastly we stopped at a Girl Scout booth. We thought they were selling cookies but they were handing out flyers for board game donations, so we plan to buy a few to donate this week. The mom told us she was teaching her daughter who has autism, what a service dog is as they watched us shop. The daughter asked politely if she could pet King Cody VI and since she was doing an important job of her own, I said yes. King Cody VI looked at me for permission and then accepted her pets while staying focused. She asked sweet questions and was amazed when I showed her how he retrieves my drop phone by cueing him to “Get,” “Hold,” and “Give” my phone to me. Her mom came back inside with my Girl Scout cookies and I haven’t had any in literally 15+ years!

This was a great way to start off our day and I had a few cookies after dinner!

21/03/2026

Casey, King Cody VI, & I had a busy afternoon! We started at LabCorp for my bloodwork UW ordered and my HRA screening for work. After waiting over an hourish, King Cody VI handled the full waiting room like a pro. Once we got into the exam room and the phlebotomist placed the IV needle into my arm, King Cody VI instantly sniffed the air and knew it was my blood. Every time a vial was drawn, he sniffed the air, lifted his head from my lap, then gently laid it back down, and offered comfort with each vial that was collected. The phlebotomist ladies said, “His eyes are only for her. That’s a trained service dog being there for his person,” “He knows it’s her blood, look how he sniffs it and goes back to offer her comfort.” It meant so much to hear others see our bond and we all agreed that dogs deserve far more credit than they’re given. 🐾

Next, we headed to UW Health Eastpark Medical Center to see my urologist. People passing by tried to get his attention with kissy noises and saying how handsome he is but he stayed focused on his work. We waited to go back, he did a great job in the “down” position on the floor.

When we got into my exam room, I had to do a urine sample in the adjoining bathroom. Casey held his leash and when I came out the nurse and Casey said he never took his eyes off the bathroom door, was completely focused waiting for me, and he didn’t care if they were talking. King Cody VI stayed in the “down” position, kept his eyes on me from across the room as I sat on the exam table. While we waited for my urologist to come in, I was recording our video and the nurse came back in to grab my sample. I told her she is officially part of our Instagram video now and she laughed. 😂

After our appointment we grabbed Buck’s Pizza and ate at my in‑laws’ house before picking up my dietary food and heading home. I’ve been in tremendous amount of pain and flaring up nonstop since we arrived at LabCorp. King Cody VI always knows when I need him, can senses it instantly for each flare-up, and I’m so thankful for his companionship and attentiveness.

My in‑laws said King Cody VI is a keeper and they are so happy King Cody VI and I got matched. ❤️

19/03/2026

Casey, King Cody VI, and I headed back to UW Health University Hospital today to meet with the general surgeon about my MRI results and next steps. The registration staff lit up when they saw King Cody VI and kept commenting on how focused he was on his person. People in the waiting room smiled watching him work, which made me smile too. 🥰

In our room, I dropped my gloves twice and cued “Get” and “Give,” and King Cody VI nailed both retrieves. He settled on his mat, and when my body started spasming during my blood pressure check, he got up on his own to support me. Nurse Chelsea and Stephanie were so impressed watching him work. After going over my MRI results from last weeks visit with the surgeon, we scheduled labs for tomorrow or Friday. We also discussed the other type of MRI I have scheduled next week. Through all of it, King Cody VI stayed focused and helped again when I dropped my gloves putting my winter jacket back on.

After UW, we were starving, so we stopped at one of our favorite places, Pancheros. King Cody VI stayed locked into his work the whole time and showed everyone exactly how a true service dog works. I was so proud of him. 🥰

I’m also extremely thankful for my husband, Casey, who continues to be by my side through every medical appointment, every diagnosis, every life‑threatening surgery, and every terrifying step when my life was hanging in the balance. He’s there on my good days, my bad days, and my in‑between days. He’s taken care of me and our little furry family, held everything together, and never once left my side, no matter how bad things got or still get. He is my rock, my biggest supporter, my best friend, and my heart. I’m forever grateful for him. ❤️

Navigating these health challenges is stressful and exhausting but having Casey and King Cody VI by my side makes me feel protected, grounded, and never alone. Two amazing men watching over me every day. I feel very fortunate to have them in my life. ❤️

Thank you all for being here and following our journey. Your support, kindness, and encouragement truly mean the world to us. We’re grateful to share our story with you. ❤️
