The Sumter SPCA would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lucky Paws Rescue for helping us find loving homes for the animals in our care. ☘️

While shelters and rescues may not always agree on every aspect of animal welfare or how organizations operate, there is one thing that unites us all: a shared commitment to the well-being of animals and a desire to see every pet find a safe, loving, forever home.

The animal welfare community is strongest when we can set aside our differences and focus on the lives depending on us. Every adoption, every foster home, every transport, and every helping hand makes a difference for animals in need.

We are grateful for those who step up to help, advocate, and open their hearts to homeless pets. Thank you, Lucky Paws Rescue, for being part of that mission and for helping give deserving animals a second chance at the lives they deserve.

Together, we can accomplish far more than any one organization can alone. Most importantly, when we work toward the same goal, the real winners are the animals.

Thank you for caring. Thank you for helping. And thank you for making a difference.

Posting because NOW would be the time to contact your vet about appropriate medication for your anxious pup. Not the week of. And NOW would be the time to UPDATE microchip information, collars & tags (names, phone numbers, addresses)! Not when your pet goes missing!

‼️‼️In South Carolina, state law requires all pet dogs, cats, and ferrets to be continuously vaccinated against rabies, with shots administered by a licensed veterinarian‼️‼️

With just simple rabies tag on your pets collar, we (or anyone with a phone) can get your fur-baby back to you within at least an hour as long as the vet clinics are open to take a call regarding the rabies number! Rabies must be up to date and match the identity of the pet it is registered to! Please do not put a tag on an animal it does not belong to. Also make sure your veterinarian has the right phone numbers for contact. That’s important too!!!

Pretty sure hardware stores like Lowe’s, Simpsons, maybe even Wally’s hardware (not sure) and even Walmart can make a tag for your pets collar with the information.

We know it sounds harsh to say that a pet owned would take up space for a truly stray animal, but it’s the truth. Pets wouldn’t go missing if they are kept inside while everyone celebrates. If you must let them out, walk them on a secure leash/collar/harness! It’s easy for them to slip out if not secured correctly! BE WITH THEM outside if you think they will not run off or jump your fence. Keep a close eye on them.

If your pet goes missing: contact SUMTER SPCA, ANIMAL CONTROL, SAVING SUMTER’S STRAYS, any local rescues and all of the Facebook pet pages you can look on. Check with your neighbors, neighborhood watch! Provide proof, bring a photo, or simply come by because you know your pet better than we do!!!

ANYONE outside of Sumter county, we URGE you to check with YOUR local shelters, animal controls, rescues and social media to locate your lost pets as we do not take in animals outside of Sumter (only counties that reside in Sumter)! It’s all we can do to house the animals in this county. We do not have the capacity to house out of county animals. 😞

Meet the “terrier siblings”

Jill, Jack and Hilly! (In order of the photo from left to right)

These adorable pups appear to be terrier-type mixes with scruffy coats, goofy expressions and playful personalities. As with all mixed-breed puppies, their exact breed makeup is unknown, and any breed listed is our best visual estimate. DNA testing would be required to know their ancestry for certain (that’s on you if you decide). These puppies are adorable, and honestly, terrier mixes can be some of the best companions—smart, playful, and full of personality. With that being said, there could be some Border terrier or even Jack Russell terrier with a lil extra of something else. Mixed breed pups always like to keep us guessing. Right now they are around 15lbs.

We expect them to be small-to-medium-sized as adults, but size and appearance can change as they grow. Especially not knowing what mom & dad looked like.

Jill (female pink collar) brindle and white in color.
Jack (male green collar) brindle color.
Hilly (male purple collar) more of a tan and white color.

Estimated around 5 months of age. Someone found them as strays (we have no previous history). Their 10 day stray hold is up as of today meaning we finally get to find them homes! They have been given their first set of shots and deworming. Will receive heart worm prevention and be spayed/neutered before they leave for their new homes. All included in $275 adoption fee! 🙂

If you are interested in a small/medium sized dog that’s still young, consider giving one of these babies the best life possible. They are good with other dogs. Could be ok with kids, but remember, they ARE PUPPIES. They will chew, jump, nip, get under your feet, but they will hopefully be loyal to their families once you’ve taught them properly. We are not sure how they are with cats, but we can test them out 🙂

You can apply online or in person.
Adoptions start at 11 am til 4 pm.
CLOSED WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS!!
We look forward to helping you find your next furry 4 legged family member 🐶🩵

Coal (male) and Brownie (female) have been at the shelter for a few months.

We’ve posted before in hopes of finding them new homes. They keep getting overlooked. 😞

They are around a year old.
Not 💯 on the breed but somewhere between doodle and terrier!

Originally found as strays. Family had for a few weeks/months before surrendering. We had them for a short time before we found them homes. They were actually adopted together! Family met with them, visited. Checked out with cats and their kiddos. They were fine& they went on to their new home…..

so we thought…

Unfortunately once they were home and comfortable, Coal and Brownie started showing semi aggressive behavior towards CATS. Chased the families poor kitties til it scared them. This went on for days. The family tried and tried but it was just too much for their cats that they had BEFOFE getting the pups. 😞

So we have found in the best interest of everyone that they need a home without cats! They have been fine with other dogs& kids. But as always, we’d rather you bring your kiddos/dogs to see for yourself.

Coal and Brownie are both fixed. Both have been checked for heartworms (negative) and given the prevention needed for the months that they have been in the shelter.
UTD on kennel cough vaccine and DHLPP.
Rabies vaccine needs to be given by your preferred veterinarian if you decide to adopt.

They are sweet. They are also active. They both have love to offer& expect it in return ❤️ Coal has a tendency to counter surf 😞 So he’d need a little extra training on that part. Cannot guarantee if they are housebroken. They do tend to have an accident or two in their kennels. So we suggest some work with that also.

They are NOT small dogs. Coal is bigger than Brownie but not by much. Coal also has more fur. They are around 70-80 lbs.

Their names should tell you who is who btw 😉

Consider giving these big goofy pups a life they deserve! As much as we’d love for them to be adopted together, they are NOT a bonded pair.

Apply online or in person.

How much do you know about BEAGLES? Yes they are adorable with their floppy ears!! They can live 10 to 15 years, some even longer than that. They can be affectionate, loyal, and social, although some inherit a stubborn streak or a tendency to howl/vocalize. Because they are scent hounds, they love to follow their noses and should be kept on a leash or in a secure, fenced area. Low maintenance grooming but routine ear cleaning would prevent ear infections…

Meet the “HOWL FAMILY” 🐶🐶🐶

Precious, Angel and Jasmine aka Jazzy!
These ole girls are sweet as pie but vocal. *Hence the nickname 🙂
They love to greet you with their howls!

These girls came from the same home. All are around 5 years old. Per their previous family, they are housebroken, good with kids and dogs. But as a shelter, we do not guarantee! We’d love for you to visit with your kids/doggies just to be on the safe side!

Precious is larger and has freckles.
Angel has a halo on her forehead.
And Jazzy girl has a white tip on her tail.
(We can point these out better when you come visit them 🙂)

UTD on vaccines. Pending heart worm checks coming Thursday. Due to be spayed hopefully next week! Which is INCLUDED in the adoption fee!!! Due to NO vet on staff, rabies vaccine MUST be given by a licensed veterinarian at your preferred clinic when you get them home!

If you’re a hound person, consider adopting one of these sweet girls. Wouldn’t classify them as older dogs just yet! They still have a lot of life and love left to give. They have been good girls here with us but we’d love for them to find their forever families!

Adoptions 11 am to 4 pm. CLOSED WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS!!!

‼️‼️$275 adoption fee WITH vaccines, dewormer, heart worm check, prevention or treatment, and their spay INCLUDED‼️‼️

Just look at their lil faces! The goofiness! The floppy ears& chubbiness! The sweetness in their eyes. How could you not love them 🤍🤍🤍
