Guide to the different types of grooming services available to your pet:
SALON:
Dogs done in a salon are dropped off, and more than likely put into a crate, each groomer has an assigned set of dogs to groom and they will prep them(trim feet, do nails, a quick" rough in" where the hair is cut but not refined, ears etc. Your dog is then put in a crate to wait for the bather.
The bather washes and dries your dog for a set amount of time but will not force the issue. They put them back in a crate with a cold air dryer , and when the groomer is finished prepping all dogs for the day, they start " finishing" them. Giving them those really cute cuts and finishing touches. When your dog is done, they go back in a crate until you pick them up.
It's less costly for salon grooming as a salon can groom anywhere from 10 to 100 dogs a day depending on how many groomers work there.
Sometimes you can find straight thru appointments but expect to pay a little more for that service.
Housecall:
This service is when a groomer comes into your home, and brings equipment, and uses your bathtub to groom your dog.
They groom your dog straight thru, and then they clean up the mess.
Because house call is time consuming from driving ,setting up, grooming, breaking down and cleaning, only 4 to 6 dogs can be done per day. This is the most expensive service.
Mobile Grooming:
Mobile Pet grooming is a van with a salon coming to your home and grooming your dog from start to finish in a van equipped with a bathtub, dryer and table. It's the fastest of the services. However, because of drive time, mobiles can only come to about 4 to 6 homes per day. This makes it a premium service and rates for it are more expensive than salon grooming. The overhead on one of these vans can run into 5 figures a month very quickly. So you can expect to pay well over 100.00 an hour. The convenience of a mobile is unmatched. But it IS a luxury service.
