💔 This Is the Post We Never Want to Write. 💔

Every day, Montgomery County Animal Services works to give every animal that comes through our doors a chance. We partner with rescues, promote adoptions, utilize foster homes, and do everything we can with the space and resources available.

Unfortunately, we have reached a point where our kennel space is critically limited.

When there are more animals coming in than leaving, we are faced with heartbreaking decisions. Healthy, adoptable animals can become at risk of euthanasia—not because they are bad animals, but because there is simply nowhere left to safely house them.

We also understand that adopting a pet is a commitment, not an impulse. We spend time getting to know the animals in our care—their personalities, energy levels, and individual needs—because we want to help match them with homes where both the animal and the family can thrive. We never want someone to feel pressured into adopting a pet that isn’t the right fit. Our staff is here to answer questions, introduce you to the animals, and help you find a companion that truly fits your lifestyle.

If you have been thinking about adopting, fostering, or rescuing, today is the day to act.

Here’s how you can help:

* 🐾 Adopt a pet.
* 🐾 Foster, even temporarily.
* 🐾 If you’re a rescue organization, please reach out if you can help.
* 🐾 Share our adoptable animals with your friends and family.
* 🐾 Reclaim lost pets as quickly as possible.
* 🐾 If your pet is not yet spayed or neutered, please consider doing so to help reduce future shelter intake.

These decisions are never made lightly. Every animal has a name, a story, and people here who care deeply about them. Euthanasia for space is the last option we ever want to face, but without adoptions, fosters, rescues, and responsible pet ownership, our options become limited.

If you have room in your home and are ready to welcome a new family member, we would love to help you find the right match.

Save Louie!!!

Say hi to Louie! 🐶 ❤️ Louie spent the beginning of his life living in a tent with his previous humans, another dog, and two cats. He has decided that living in a home comes with great benefits, he adores a comfy bed and air conditioning and heat is awesome! We've spent some time getting to know him- and what his best life looks like. He's a well behaved fellow, and he adores his humans, so having a family who works from home, or isn’t gone long hours- would be best. He's active, and he needs to loose a bit of weight to be at his healthiest- so a family who is active that can give him daily walks and keep him on a diet, is required. This breed has many health and back issues if they are allowed to become overweight- so please be sure you can keep him on the right track, prior to applying. Louie adores racing around the yard, and he can be a private pooper, so a fenced in yard is required (physical fencing, please).

Louie would love another playful dog in the home, he adores the companionship of both dogs and cats. All children should be 10 years of age, or older. He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is up to date on preventative medications. All he needs now is to find his forever family. If you meet Louie's needs, please apply.
