We don't need blood to track but I do enjoy using it more than not using it.

This was the only track my wife got to join me on this year. So it's pretty cool that Emmy knocked it out of the park.

What counts as a recovery? A lot of trackers have different requirements for a "recovery"

Shot Saturday night
Tracked Sunday morning. Around 300-400 yards we jump him without confirmation. Only going off my dogs behavior. She was slamming the lead. Back up take off again and slam it. Do a circle and slam it again.
Told him to get back to hunting

Wednesday night he calls saying be shot him again and wants me back out. Shot this time was suspected to be a lot better.

Bolt was covered in fat and didn't look good. Emmy gets to work and the blood on the ground looks like muscle blood. 426 yards later we jump him. Emmy got 5 ft away.

Backed out sent the drone up and can see that he beds again under 100 yards away.
Everything looked like a nonfatal shot and I tell him to keep hunting.

As I drive home and go to bed I start thinking about past tracks. Every time I have got that close to the deer they were found the next day dead. After a few calls with my mentors I call and explain my thoughts. I tell the hunter I'll come back out after work and run Emmy again because I think there's a chance we could find his buck.

A few hours later he calls saying he found him after a quick walk around the area.

Although my dog didn't get to tug on him she did her job. Extremely thankful for my mentors who I call nonstop and continue to help me.

Congratulations to the hunter what a story for a tough buck.

My new pup Emmy's first recovery ๐Ÿ’ช
The biggest thing I want to point out is when a track is handled correctly by the hunter it makes quick and easy work for our dogs. Also giving the hunter the highest odds of recovery.

This recovery was one to remember! My nine-month-old Hanoverian Scent Hound made her very first deer recovery โ€” a liver-shot 9-point buck that the hunter sai...

Oftentimes, when a hunter is asking for help from a dog tracker, there are negative comments about needing to make better shots or learning to track themselves. However, this week, we had a hunter who diligently tracked a deer for over 400 yards after a shoulder shot. When we brought the dog out,she showed great tracking behavior past his last blood, but didnโ€™t find any new blood beyond his last mark. Even after we left, the hunter continued to grid search the area.

This experience shows the commitment and respect that hunters have for the deer they pursue, and itโ€™s a reminder of the importance of doing everything possible.

Not the outcome the hunter was hoping for but honestly it's tracks like this that I gain a lot of respect for Individuals I meet while doing this.

Emmys first recovery!!!

This Hunter did everything right after the shot. Making it a perfect real track for my new pup. Hit liver lost blood after 60 yards backed out and called a dog. No grid search.

We came out a little earlier than I would have liked because he had his daughters birthday dinner to get too. I choose to fly my thermal drone over a crp field first incase it was alive. After flying over and not finding it... Quick search with drone not doing a hard detailed pass anywhere.

Got Emmy out...

Under 15 minutes and 200 yards later we were standing over his buck. This is a great example of when the hunter does everything right after the shot we recover your deer fast and easy.

Congratulations again! ๐Ÿค
