Does your dog exhibit problem behaviors like reactivity, aggression or pulling? Need someone to walk your dog while you work? Kiefer Kennel Club has you covered. My mission is to help dogs and their humans achieve balance using dog psychology and positive reinforcement training methods. My hands-on rehabilitation and training programs teach you exactly what to do and how to build on what you learn. I’ll teach you how to be mindful of your energy and read your dog’s subtle communication signals. I’ve worked with dogs exhibiting various problematic behaviors from separation anxiety to dog reactivity, and I believe any dog can be rehabilitated with patience and the right mindset. Every dog is unique, so our rehab plans are always tailored to suit individual personalities and needs. I’ve experienced firsthand through rescuing and training my own dogs and working with my clients that exercise, structure, and socialization are vital to a happy, balanced dog. My services at Kiefer Kennel Club provide exercise, structure and socialization while teaching you to maintain balance with your dog at home.

ever heard “the less you talk, the more they listen”?

🙄🙄🙄🙄

nothing could be farther from the truth.

sure, folks can talk to their dogs in counterproductive ways.

but that doesn’t mean talking has to be scrapped all together !!

when you talk with a friendly tone, confident but not overbearing, kind and comforting with boundaries, a whole world of connection opens up.

i’ve seen dogs who struggled with reactivity for YEARS improve significantly when their guardians start talking them through reactions.

“oh, you see that dog? i know you think it’s scary but we are safe together. you got this buddy.”

does your dog know exactly what all those words mean? no.

but they know how they make you FEEL.

our words have the power to change our bodies - posture, emotions, facial expressions, you name it, our speak impacts it.

that’s what dogs pickup on.

and when we erase words from our dog communication vocabulary, we erase a part of ourselves that brings reassurance and regulation to both ends of the leash.

so next time your dog gets flustered, try talking to them like a scared child you’re helping through the world. hold their hand. tell them they’re okay ❤️❤️

it’s HARD for dogs to turn away from their triggers !!

in the reaction, they are trying to process and put out information. when we pull them out of it before they’re ready, in can create more confusion, frustration and competition between us and our dog.

not to mention it can also accidentally invite unwanted dogs into their space.

so what’s the alternative? meet the dog in their reaction or fixation and create a social response to you. stand with them, talk to them, be with them, validate the emotion they’re experiencing, breathe together.

then propose an alternative behavior, like moving away, when it feels right rather than forcing it during the explosion.

don’t get me wrong, recall is awesome !!! and sometimes big explosive reactions need interrupting or moving away immediately for safety (this happens with ace sometimes).

but recall is not always the answer.

How I Train a Loose Leash Walk! 🦮

you may have heard all the drills and formulas for a perfect dog walk, but have you thought about prioritizing connection first?

how about a walk without thinking about positioning - just focusing on connection and enjoyment.

this is where i start every dog before we get into any drills, walking exercises or follow commands.

a dog who knows leash drills can perform them till the cows come home without connecting to the other side of the leash.

a dog who’s connected checks in because it feels good, and they know a check in is the key to moving forward.

that’s just one of the ways we Do Dogs Differently over here ✨🐾
