A CRAZY September is an understatement. Hosting an HZP on Labor Day weekend, having one of our pups run Oberlander, running in Armbruster and hosting a rescheduled VGP due to Flooding made our head spin for a bit. Got to reflect on Armbruster and had a blast with the DD family. We were proud of our girl Amsel as she showed the breed show judges what she was all about. Moving with confidence and showing her temperament throughout. She was awarded an 11 in form and a 10 in coat!
Just like her mom. She showed herself in the water too with a duck search to remember her by. After tracking the duck out into cover she disappeared for 5 minutes or so before pushing two ducks from the cover. She tracked the ducks back towards the near shore for over 120m. Her nose took her to one duck on shore where she grabbed it and started making her way back to me. The other ducked jumped from the grass and that was when the Circus started… Dove on the second duck and proceeded to play catch with herself.
Avoiding her responsibility to retrieve it to me, she had a blast at my expense. Had I intervened at the right time, we may have been able to salvage the event. Judges felt she may get near the road and had me call her. She came right in and sat. Go figure. After the shenanigans it was determined she had exhausted all rights to stay in the test and failed on manner of retrieve. The subsequent event gets zeroed out and no credit was given in her very best search behind the duck. We worked hard at building the drive and search up so I’m not mad at her. I just wished we could’ve finished to show we belonged.
I know what I have and believe in our breeding program. Fortunately we ran an HZP earlier and ran a 10 in stobern mit Enten. Already training for VGP with her and planning on breeding her mother again this fall. Looking forward to Gettysburg as we have another lively brown girl ready to prove herself.
Enjoy your hunting season

After a long hot summer we finally got to test day. Amsel did what was asked of her all day. Search, point, drags were good. Retrieves were Perfect! We had a hiccup on our blind where she went across upwind and searched before heading back where I gave her a back command halfway back. She continued to me sniffed around and headed back over for the retrieve. Too much handling I was told. 175 total points. I’m super happy with her, not a very flashy dog, very matter of fact with her tasks.
Heading to Armbruster next week, gonna keep building her up. Just want to thank everyone who came to train this year and all of the phone calls between the Crew. Good luck to everyone going to Oberlander and Armbruster!! Waidmannsheil
