DD’s Dragons’ Epic Tale

It all started with a few leopard geckos who lived with our family as we created a life together. They followed us form home to home and form state to state. Nearly fifteen years old, they have been a constant in our household and always there for us to nurture as a way to unwind and get out of our crazy worlds.

Last year, our youngest decided to show an interest in reptiles after watching several episodes of Scaled on Animal Planet. We took her to a reptile store in Magnolia, Texas where she spent what seemed like hours gazing at the snakes. We even took a picture of her standing in front of the tank of a very inquisitive boa. Upon posting her photo on Facebook and mentioning her desire to get such a pet, a friend responded with an offer to let us adopt a couple of bearded dragons.

We went through a small interview process with her daughter before picking up our tiny new house mates. With aquarium in tow, we went home to set up an area of the house which, little did we know, would become the epicenter of our reptile kingdom.

One year, two dragons, 3 clutches with thirty nine eggs and a chameleon later, we are in full swing. We’ve come to realize that reptiles are a fascinating way to learn about nature and a cool way to bring the family together. Not only were we able to adopt the dragons, but we also adopted the chameleon.
