WOW!!!
A cat fell five stories from an apartment balcony and landed on a delivery driver's pizza bag. He was standing at the building entrance. The cat hit his insulated bag and bounced onto the sidewalk. Alive.
A pizza delivery driver outside of a suburb of Philadelphia was standing at the entrance of an apartment building last Thursday around 8 p.m. holding his insulated delivery bag, waiting for the customer to buzz him in. He heard a sound above him. He looked up. Something was falling.
A cat hit his pizza bag. Direct hit on the insulated square bag he was holding at his side. The bag cushioned the impact. The cat bounced off the bag onto the sidewalk and landed on her feet.
She stood there. He stood there. They looked at each other.
Five stories. Roughly fifty feet. She'd fallen or jumped from an open balcony on the fifth floor. She hit a three-inch thick insulated pizza bag being held by a man who happened to be standing in exactly that spot at exactly that second.
The delivery driver said the impact almost knocked the bag out of his hand. He said he felt it hit. He said the pizza inside was destroyed. He said the cat stood on the sidewalk and shook herself off like a dog shaking off water and then sat down and started grooming.
She started grooming. After falling five stories and hitting a pizza bag. She sat on the sidewalk and licked her paw.
He picked her up. She let him. He carried her into the building lobby. The customer he was delivering to came down and saw him holding a cat and a crushed pizza bag and said "What happened?" He said "A cat fell on your pizza."
They found the owner on the fifth floor. Balcony door was open. The cat had jumped at a bird on the railing and went over. The owner was inside and didn't know she'd fallen. She opened the door and saw the delivery driver holding her cat and started screaming.
The cat was taken to a vet. Bruised left shoulder. Sore for a few days. No fractures. No internal injuries. A cat fell fifty feet, hit a pizza bag, and walked away with a bruise.
The pizza did not survive.
This is the photo the delivery driver took in the lobby. The cat sitting on top of the crushed insulated delivery bag on the lobby floor, grooming her paw. Casual. Unbothered. She just fell five stories and she's cleaning herself on the thing that saved her.
The delivery driver's company refunded the pizza and sent him a new bag. He said the old bag has a cat-shaped dent in the top. He kept it.
The owner offered to pay for the pizza. The driver said "Keep it. Your cat already ate the experience."
He said he's been delivering pizzas for three years. He's been late, gotten lost, dropped orders, dealt with wrong addresses.
This is the first delivery where something fell on him from five stories and lived.
He told his manager what happened. His manager said "Is the bag okay?" He said "The bag saved a cat's life." His manager said "So is it okay or do you need a new one."
He got a new one. But he kept the dented one in his trunk. He says it's his lucky bag now.
The cat is fine. She's not allowed on the balcony anymore.
The pizza was pepperoni. It didn't make it. But the cat did.
And somewhere in Philadelphia a delivery driver has a dented pizza bag in his trunk with a story nobody believes until he shows them the photo.
