Pedestal Work 🐴 One of my favorite exercises! Pedestal work helps horses become more aware of where their feet are while improving coordination, balance, and strength. By asking them to carefully step up and fit all four hooves into a small space, this helps to encourage focus and allows the horse to trust my guidance.

It’s also a great desensitization tool since they’re elevated off the ground! Exercises like this help build confidence, not only in themselves, but also in our partnership and communication together. This is super important!

Just over 30 days of in-hand work and under-saddle, a lifetime of understanding to go! It’s been incredible watching this new rider and horse duo grow. We are digging deeper than just riding—focusing on the 'why' behind the behavior to build a true connection.

I cannot stress the importance of thorough groundwork enough. In-hand training creates a consistent mental and physical template, building proper posture, balance, and responsiveness to aids without the burden of a rider. It prepares the horse to carry weight confidently and react to subtle cues.

Ground pole exercises are primarily considered a low impact exercise that helps build strength through the core, back, and hindquarters while teaching a horse better balance and awareness of their body without excessive strain on the joints. They are also physically strengthening, especially when trotted or cantered, acting as high-intensity, low-concussion exercise.

Ground pole exercises also keeps the horse mentally engaged instead of being stuck in the same routine.

In this video, you’re seeing a horse that has dealt with back issues. Through consistent ground pole work, the horse has been able to regain strength and confidence, which allows the owner to ride the horse once again.
