Today, on National Dog Day, we’re honoring the memory of a very special girl, Zoii.

We had the privilege of caring for Zoii and getting to know the incredible personality behind that sweet face. She was truly one of a kind, and we’ll miss her more than words can say.

Her family described her beautifully:

“Zoii was bigger than life. She was life.

She was the most inquisitive dog, always curious about the world and everyone around her. Her love for people and the warmth of the sun were her fuel. She had an incredible way of giving love so freely, everywhere she went.”

We feel so lucky to have been a small part of Zoii’s life and to have received some of that love ourselves. 🤍

Rest in peace, Dolly. 😔🕊️

Dolly Parton’s life was full of philanthropy, especially when it came to animal conservation and rescue efforts. Dolly loved animals; her impact and legacy will remain through these programs she so loved.

The Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood was a project with the American Eagle Foundation to oversee and educate people on bald eagle conservation. This project has helped the many efforts to recover bald eagle populations and get them removed from the endangered species list.

The Doggy Parton clothing and accessory brand donates portions of its funds to Willa B. Farms, a non-profit rescue from Old Hickory, Tennessee.

She also wrote several children’s books about her god-dog, Billy The Kid.

Dolly Parton will be deeply missed by her community, and all other communities she touched with her outreach efforts to help both people and animals alike.

Just another totally normal day at Sit Pretty… 🐰🐦🦎🐱🐶

One of my favorite things about this job is that I never quite know what combination of animals my day is going to bring. On this particular day, the lineup included bunnies, parakeets, lizards, cats, AND dogs.

Basically, if your household looks a little more like a zoo than a “traditional” pet household, you’re our kind of people.

We love dogs and cats, but Sit Pretty is not just for dogs and cats. We love caring for the feathered, scaled and floppy-eared family members, too!

Cat safety during poor air quality!

When there is an alert for poor air quality, such as from wildfire smoke, the pollution concentrations and particulate matter in the air can reach hazardous levels that are unhealthy for the general population, including our pets.

How might poor air quality or wildfire smoke impact my cat’s health?

The risks of poor air quality to pets are similar to those that pertain to people, and they mainly impact the heart and lungs. While people can wear masks that can minimize inhalation of small particulate matter, unfortunately, our pets cannot, which may put them at a greater risk.

What symptoms should I look for?

The most common signs of the irritation that smoke can cause to the throat, nose, and eyes are redness and watery discharge from the eyes, coughing, gagging, nasal discharge, a fast respiratory rate even when they are at rest, increased respiratory effort, difficulty breathing, weakness, and disorientation. Contact your veterinarian if you have concerns about your pet's exposure risk or if you observe any of these symptoms.

How should I minimize my cat’s exposure to poor air quality?

When the air quality is poor, the best way to protect your pet is to limit their exposure by staying indoors and keeping windows and doors closed. Consider using air purifiers or filters indoors, and pay careful attention to updates and evacuation warnings provided by local health and safety officials.
