It’s National Veterinary Technician Week, and I thought I would share a little about what being an Equine Certified Veterinary Technician means here at Equine WellBeing Rescue. 💙🐴🫏
Much of the care I provide happens behind the scenes. Eye injuries, malnourished horses, colic, lameness, and hospice care all require careful observation, skilled nursing, and knowing when something needs immediate veterinary attention.
Yesterday was a heartbreaking example: recognizing the signs of a catastrophic injury and understanding the urgency of getting that horse immediate help. Sometimes our knowledge helps an animal recover. Sometimes it helps us recognize suffering and advocate for a compassionate goodbye. Both matter deeply.
Working with our veterinarians, I provide ongoing nursing care, administer prescribed treatments, monitor progress, and watch for changes that might otherwise go unnoticed. For animals who can safely be treated here, that means receiving care in familiar surroundings and, in some cases, avoiding or shortening a veterinary hospital stay.
That ability makes a tremendous difference to a rescue. It helps keep medical costs manageable and allows your donations to provide more care for the horses and donkeys who need us.
This week, I’m proud to honor the veterinary technicians whose knowledge, patience, and compassion make such a difference—and the veterinarians we work alongside.
For me, that work continues right here at the rescue, through the hopeful days, the exhausting days, and the heartbreaking ones. These animals deserve skilled care and a gentle hand through all of them. ❤️
