We are so incredibly grateful to for their support of Wolf’s medical care. GSR was awarded a $1000 grant that paid for biopsies of Wolf’s leg. We now have a diagnosis and are working with a dermatologist for treatment. GSR has been hit hard with medical cases and these funds were so critical to help obtain a diagnosis and treatment plan. Hodor is a sweet boy at a local animal in need of a foster home willing to bring him through heartworm treatment which would be covered by GSR. Please apply at www.gsrescue1.org — must be in Illinois within 2 hours of Chicago

Hodor is a four year old Shepherd that arrived as a stray back in April. He was found with another dog and they were covered in mud, ticks, and dirt. Hodor was a bashful boy but had the biggest, most gentle heart. He gently takes his treats and leans into you for pets and brushing. Unfortunately, Hodor came back positive for heartworm. He will need to start his heartworm treatment soon with a rescue. Hodor didn't mind other male dogs as long as they didn't try to mount him. He does great with females. He was found with another female. He walks well on a leash and does well in his kennel here. If interested in pulling HODOR, please email [email protected].

Meet Wolf and Charly…two medical cases that we need your help with! Wolf came to us from SSHS with a wound to his leg back in December and Charly came to us from CACC last month. Wolf went to foster right away and saw our vet partner in Elgin. After 4 months of treatment and countless vet visits, we thought Wolf was in the clear, only for new lesions on his leg to appear. Wolf saw a specialist last week and had a CT of his leg performed. His case is becoming more complex and will require partnering with a dermatologist for further care, including biopsies. Wolf’s initial visit was $3000, and will require ongoing treatment. This does not include the costs of treatment over the last 4 months. Charly ended up at CACC after escaping from a junk yard. We learned Charly’s owner was not coming for him, and that it wasn’t Charly’s first time at the shelter. Sadly this boy lived his entire life as a junkyard dog. He immediately became urgent at CACC and thankfully we had a foster apply to save him! Charly is for lack of a better phrase, a hot mess. On top of it, he became very sick initially with an upper respiratory infection from the shelter. His eyes, ears, and skin are all infected. Charly was initially underweight but has since gained. Both of these boys are so sweet and have been through so much. Wolf hasn’t been able to fully enjoy being a puppy with his wounds, and Charly has spent his entire life outside neglected. Please consider a donation — we know it’s a tough time and we wouldn’t be asking for help if we truly didn’t need it!

Willow (Moira) was surrendered to CACC due to no fault of her own. She is approximately 10 months old and full of puppy personality! Willow is fostered with 2 other dogs and would enjoy a playmate in her forever home. She gets along well with her foster brother, but can be bossy with her foster sister, so a male playmate would be best. She is crate trained and housebroken. Willow loves to run around the backyard and play with her toys. She hasn’t been around cats or small dogs since coming into rescue. Like any young GSD, Willow would benefit from obedience training. Say hi to Clementine & Cece! These adorable girls were rescued from CACC after being surrendered. Clementine and Cece are about 13 weeks old. Their ideal homes will have GSD experience, willing to complete obedience training, and time to dedicate to a puppy! Clementine and Cece are in a foster home that has done a fabulous job working on housebreaking and crate training. They will be placed in separate homes — ideally with a playmate! Meet Suki! This gorgeous sable girl was surrendered to CACC when her owner was no longer able to keep her. She is about 4 months old and full of puppy spirit! Suki is good with other dogs and would enjoy a playmate. Her foster mom reports she’s a well behaved puppy and is making great progress with housebreaking. Suki is currently fostered in the city, but tends to get overwhelmed by all the noises and constant stimulation. Her ideal forever home will have GSD experience and committed to training. Darcy is an 18-month-old sweetheart with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She’s an outgoing, loving girl who absolutely adores people—especially kids! She would make a wonderful family dog.

Darcy is both crate trained and potty trained, and she already knows basic commands like sit and stay. She’s eager to learn and is currently working on her manners, including not jumping when she gets excited, and improving her leash walking skills.

Like many young pups, Darcy still has some playful energy and may jump up to say hello, but she’s making great progress with consistency and guidance. She loves nothing more than cuddling up next to you on the couch after a fun day of play.

We’re not sure how Darcy does with cats just yet. She is a sweet, affectionate girl who is ready to find her forever home.
