The Hard Truths of Owning Birds: Day 1

One con of owning birds that nobody prepares you for?

You cannot turn them off.

They don’t care that you have a migraine.
They don’t care that you had a terrible day.
They don’t care that you’re on an important phone call.
They don’t care that you just need five minutes of silence.

They scream. They call for you. They throw things. They demand attention.

And sometimes, even when you love them more than anything, it can be overstimulating as hell.

You can love your birds deeply and still admit that some days, they are A LOT.

That doesn’t make you a bad bird owner.

It makes you an honest one.

Day 1 of the bird ownership truths nobody puts in the cute videos. 🦜

The birds that are the hardest to place are usually the ones who need us the most. 💔

The fearful ones.
The aggressive ones.
The ones who scream, bite, pluck, shut down, or don’t know how to trust anymore.

Trauma doesn’t disappear just because an animal was rescued.

Healing isn’t always pretty. It can look like fear, destruction, setbacks, and learning to trust all over again.

At Little Feet & Happy Beaks, we believe every bird deserves patience, safety, and someone who stays. 🖤

Some may never be “easy.”
Some may never fully trust again.
But they are still worthy of love. ❤️💞❤️

Cesar is officially ready for adoption. 🦜

Cesar is an Amazon parrot with an unknown age who came from a hoarding situation. Despite his past, he is healthy, thriving, and learning that life can be calm, safe, and predictable.

Cesar is what we would consider a “hands off” bird. He does not want to be touched or handled and is not a bird that currently wants to step up. He prefers to enjoy your company from the top of his cage, listen to you sing, and simply exist beside his person without pressure.

He will happily go back into his cage on his own with no issues, making his routine very manageable. Cesar is especially cautious around men and will need someone patient who understands that trust is earned slowly and respectfully.

Cesar would do best in a home that appreciates parrots for who they are instead of expecting physical affection. He is perfect for somebody who understands body language, respects boundaries, and doesn’t need a bird that wants constant handling.

Sometimes the biggest rescue success stories are the birds that simply learn they’re finally safe. ❤️

🦜✨ Bird Nutrition Matters More Than Most People Realize ✨🦜

A healthy bird starts with a healthy diet 💚
Seeds alone are NOT enough for most parrots. Just like us, birds need variety, fresh foods, enrichment, and balanced nutrition to truly thrive.

🥦 Healthy foods can help support:
• Better feather quality
• Strong immune systems
• Healthy weight
• Mental stimulation
• Longer happier lives

🍎 Great snack ideas:
• Bell peppers
• Carrots
• Broccoli
• Papaya
• Blueberries
• Leafy greens
• Cooked sweet potato

🚫 Avoid:
• Avocado
• Chocolate
• Caffeine
• Onion & garlic
• Salty or processed foods

Remember — nutrition is love too 🖤
Small changes in diet can make a HUGE difference in your bird’s health and behavior over time.
