🍂🐐 EVERYONE LOVES FALL ON THE FARM… UNTIL THEY REALIZE WINTER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! 😂❄️

The leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and the Chew Crew and Baa Street Boys are starting to grow their winter fluff! 🐐🐑❤️

While everyone else is enjoying pumpkin spice and sweater weather, I’m thinking about hay, bedding, water buckets, and everything that needs to be ready before winter arrives. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

Here’s something that might surprise you…

Goats and sheep don’t necessarily need heated barns to stay comfortable in cold weather!

Healthy, properly acclimated adult livestock are generally well-equipped to handle colder temperatures. But there’s a BIG difference between cold weather and being cold, wet, and exposed to the wind.

That’s why fall preparation is so important!

🏠 Shelter: A dry place protected from wind and precipitation, with proper ventilation.

🌾 Hay: Plenty of quality forage as pasture growth slows.

💧 Water: Fresh, clean water every day, even when temperatures drop below freezing.

🧹 Bedding: Clean, dry resting areas to help keep everyone comfortable.

🐐 Health: Keeping an eye on body condition, hooves, and overall well-being.

And here’s an important point: A dry, well-ventilated shelter without direct drafts is generally more important than simply making a barn warm.

Because raising livestock isn’t just about keeping them fed. It’s about understanding their needs as the seasons change. ❤️

Of course, the Chew Crew couldn’t care less about my winter preparation checklist.

They’re just excited about the unlimited hay buffet and apparently believe that winter coats are included in their employee benefits package! 😂🐐

🍁 What’s YOUR favorite part of fall? The cooler weather, changing leaves, or watching the animals get their winter fluff?

🐐☕ MY EMPLOYEES DON’T BELIEVE IN WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, OR SLEEPING IN! 😂🐑

While most people are enjoying their morning coffee, the Chew Crew and Baa Street Boys are already demanding breakfast like they haven’t eaten in three weeks! 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

Welcome to another morning at That Goat Guy!

Before the animals head out to work, before the first fence gets set, and sometimes before I’ve even had a chance to wake up completely, there’s already plenty to do.

🌾 Hay and feed to put out.
💧 Water buckets to fill and clean.
🧹 Shelters and living areas to maintain.
🚧 Fencing to check.
🐐 And a whole lot of four-legged personalities to keep happy and healthy!

Because raising livestock isn’t just about the adorable pictures, funny videos, and watching goats eat everything in sight.

It’s a commitment. Every. Single. Day. ❤️

Animals don’t understand weekends, holidays, bad weather, or days when you’re just not feeling your best.

They depend on us to show up, pay attention, and make sure their needs are met.

And sometimes, it’s those little daily routines that make the biggest difference.

A clean shelter, fresh water, proper nutrition, and taking a few minutes to observe each animal can help prevent problems before they become something much bigger.

Good animal care isn’t something you do when it’s convenient. It’s something you make a priority. 🐐❤️

Is it exhausting sometimes? Absolutely!

Would I trade it? Not for a second.

Because there’s something pretty special about starting every morning surrounded by animals who depend on you…

Even if they’re screaming at you because breakfast is approximately 37 seconds late. 😂🐑

☕ So tell me…what’s the first thing YOU do every morning?

Because around here, my coffee usually has to wait until management has fed the employees! 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

🐐😂 I DON’T KNOW WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS, BUT GOATS DO NOT BELIEVE IN FOLLOWING RULES! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Around here, I like to think I’m the one running the farm.

The Chew Crew, however, seems to have a completely different understanding of how management works. 😂

We’ve got self-appointed supervisors, professional escape artists, fence inspectors, attention seekers, and a few employees who seem determined to test my last remaining nerve.

🐐 Bowser believes he’s the CEO and that beard scratches are a mandatory part of his compensation package.

🐐 Luigi has never encountered a personal boundary he felt obligated to respect. If there’s room between my legs, apparently that’s where he belongs.

🐐 Princess Peach has made it her life’s mission to personally test every inch of fencing. Usually with her head. 🤦🏼‍♂️

And the rest of the crew? Well, let’s just say the employee handbook is more of a list of suggestions than actual rules. 😂

But here’s the thing…

Goats are naturally curious, intelligent, and incredibly resourceful animals. They love to climb, explore, investigate their surroundings, and figure out how things work.

Which is wonderful…

UNTIL THEY FIGURE OUT HOW SOMETHING WORKS THAT YOU REALLY WISH THEY HADN’T! 😂🐐

That’s why secure fencing, enrichment, and giving them opportunities to play and explore are such important parts of responsible goat ownership.

Because a bored goat can become a VERY creative goat.

And trust me, I’ve seen enough of their creative projects to last a lifetime. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

But as much as they drive me crazy sometimes, those ridiculous personalities are exactly what make them so special.

No two are alike, and there’s never a dull moment.

At That Goat Guy, the employees may have four legs, but they’ve got enough attitude for an entire human workforce! 🐐❤️

And apparently, management has absolutely no authority.

💬 SO LET’S HEAR IT!

If goats could get written up at work, what do you think their most common offense would be?

Destruction of property? Unauthorized breaks? Insubordination? Harassment of management? 😂👇

🐐❤️ THEY MAY BE MY EMPLOYEES… BUT THEY’LL ALWAYS BE FAMILY FIRST. 🐑❤️

Everybody sees the Chew Crew and Baa Street Boys working, playing, getting into trouble, and occasionally testing my last remaining nerve. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

But what you don’t always see are the little moments in between.

The quiet cuddles. The familiar faces waiting at the gate. The ones who follow me around just because they want to be close. The personalities, the quirks, and the little things that make every single one of them special.

Some demand kisses and beard scratches. Some have absolutely no concept of personal space. Others prefer to admire me from a distance…unless there’s food involved. 😂🐐

And then there are those moments when I stop what I’m doing, look around, and realize just how much these animals mean to me.

Because the truth is, they’ve given me just as much as I’ve given them. ❤️

They’ve taught me patience, responsibility, compassion, and the importance of finding joy in the simplest things.

They’ve made me laugh when I’ve needed it most, given me a reason to keep pushing forward on the difficult days, and reminded me that sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down and enjoy what’s right in front of you.

They’re not just livestock. They’re not just working animals. And they’re certainly not just a business.

They’re individuals, each with their own personality, their own story, and their own special place in my heart.

And while That Goat Guy may be known for goatscaping, sheep grazing, and all the chaos that comes with farm life…

It’s always been about so much more than that.

It’s about the animals, the relationships, the trust, and the life we’ve built together. 🐐🐑❤️

At the end of the day, the fencing gets put away, the chores get finished, and the workday comes to an end.

But these guys don’t stop being part of my life when the clock runs out.

They may be the Chew Crew and Baa Street Boys to everyone else…

But to me, they’re family. Always have been. Always will be. ❤️

🌱🐐 GOOD FARMING ISN’T JUST ABOUT TAKING CARE OF THE ANIMALS… IT’S ABOUT TAKING CARE OF THE LAND, TOO! 🌎🐑

One of the things I love most about raising livestock is watching how animals and the environment work together.

But here’s something that I think is incredibly important for people to understand:

Just because you put livestock on a piece of land doesn’t automatically make it regenerative farming. 🌿

Goats and sheep can play an incredible role in vegetation management, soil health, and nutrient cycling. But how those animals are managed makes ALL the difference!

🐐 The Chew Crew browses brush, vines, leaves, and woody vegetation.

🐑 The Baa Street Boys graze grasses and lower-growing plants.

💩 And both help return nutrients and organic matter to the land through their manure.

Sounds like a pretty perfect system, right?

Well…not quite! 😂

Because there’s another very important part of the equation.

THE LAND NEEDS TIME TO RECOVER! 🌱

Too many animals in one area for too long can actually do more harm than good.

Overgrazing, soil compaction, damaged vegetation, and exposed soil can all become problems when livestock aren’t managed appropriately.

That’s why responsible grazing isn’t just about deciding WHERE the animals eat.

It’s also about knowing WHEN TO MOVE THEM and WHEN TO GIVE THE LAND A BREAK.

And this becomes especially important as we head into fall and winter, when plant growth slows and recovery can take longer. 🍂

Regenerative farming isn’t simply about having animals on a pasture.

It’s about understanding the relationship between the animals, the plants, the soil, and the environment—and making management decisions that help protect and improve that system over time.

Healthy animals depend on healthy land. And healthy land depends on responsible management. ❤️🌎

At That Goat Guy, I want the Chew Crew and Baa Street Boys to do more than just eat vegetation.

I want to continue learning, improving, and finding ways to make livestock part of a more sustainable approach to agriculture and land management.

Because sometimes the most important thing a farmer can do for a pasture…

IS KNOW WHEN TO TAKE THE EMPLOYEES OFF THE CLOCK! 😂🐐🐑

🌱 Good farming starts with good stewardship.

💬 Did you know that HOW livestock graze can make such a difference in the health of the soil?

🍂🐐 CHILLY FALL MORNINGS? THE CHEW CREW DIDN’T GET THE MEMO! 😂🍁

The temperatures are dropping, the mornings are getting a little crisp, and while most of us are thinking about grabbing another cup of coffee and staying warm…

The Sr. & Jr. Chew Crew have other plans! 🐐💨

Running, jumping, climbing, playing, and generally causing the kind of chaos that makes me question who’s actually in charge around here. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

Apparently, cooler weather just means MORE ENERGY!

And watching the older crew and the youngsters running around together is one of those little things that reminds me why I love what I do. ❤️

Because as much as these guys work hard out in the field, they’re still goats. They need time to play, socialize, explore, and just enjoy being goats.

Of course, around here, playtime usually involves somebody starting trouble, somebody else joining in, and me standing there wondering what they’re going to break next. 😂

🍂 Cool mornings, happy goats, and a whole lot of personality.

Just another beautiful fall morning with the Chew Crew!

Same crazy employees. Different season. 🐐🍁❤️

🐑🎤 EVERYBODY KNOWS THE CHEW CREW… BUT HAVE YOU MET THE BAA STREET BOYS?! 😂🌿

The goats might get most of the attention around here, but let’s not forget about our other hardworking employees!

Meet Kevin, one of the resident goofballs and proud members of the Baa Street Boys! 🐑❤️

Kevin is one of our more outgoing sheep, usually sporting that classic “Who, me?!” expression. And if breakfast is even a few seconds late, you can bet he’s going to make sure the entire neighborhood hears about it! 😂

But Kevin and the boys aren’t just here to provide entertainment. They’ve got an important job to do!

🌿 DID YOU KNOW?

Goats and sheep have different eating habits, which makes them a pretty incredible team when it comes to vegetation management!

🐐 The Chew Crew: Goats are primarily browsers, preferring leaves, vines, brush, and woody vegetation. They’re usually the ones reaching UP for their next meal.

🐑 The Baa Street Boys: Sheep are primarily grazers, preferring grasses and other low-growing vegetation. They’re usually the ones keeping their heads DOWN.

And here’s something I love about working with both!

When goats and sheep work together, their different feeding habits can complement one another, helping us manage vegetation at different levels.

Different eating habits. Different personalities. One hardworking team! 🌱🐐🐑

Of course, Kevin doesn’t care much about the science behind it all.

He’s just happy somebody opened the buffet. 😂

So while the Chew Crew handles the browsing department, the Baa Street Boys are busy keeping the grazing department running!

And occasionally filing very loud complaints with management about breakfast. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

🌿 At That Goat Guy, we don’t just offer goatscaping! We also provide targeted sheep grazing as part of our vegetation management services.

Now, we have a very important question…

ARE YOU TEAM CHEW CREW 🐐 OR TEAM BAA STREET BOYS 🐑?!

Let us know in the comments! 👇😂

🎓🐐 REPORT CARDS ARE IN… AND HR HAS SOME CONCERNS. 😂📚

With the Chew Crew getting ready for school, I figured it was only fair to see how my employees would actually perform in the classroom.

The results are…about what you’d expect. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

🐐 CHEW CREW REPORT CARD 📝
Student: Luigi

🌿 Vegetation Removal: A+
Excellent work ethic. Willing to eat during the entire class period.

🍪 Snack Identification: A++
Can detect the sound of a treat container opening from approximately three counties away.

🚧 Fence Respect: D-
Understands that fences establish boundaries. Disagrees with the concept.

👂 Following Directions: C
Clearly hears instructions. Whether they apply to them personally remains under review.

🗣️ Indoor Voice: F
Some students believe every minor inconvenience requires notifying the entire farm.

🤝 Personal Boundaries: F
Standing directly on top of the teacher is apparently considered participation.

⏰ Attendance: A+
Never late for breakfast.
Never late for dinner.
Suspiciously unavailable when it’s time for hoof trimming.

🧠 Problem Solving: A
Unfortunately, most of the problems they’re solving are “How do I get somewhere I’m not supposed to be?” 😂

TEACHER’S COMMENTS:
Bright student with tremendous potential. Highly food motivated. Would benefit from improved listening skills and a reduced desire to dismantle classroom equipment.

Also, please stop eating your homework. 🐐📚😂

So yes, the Chew Crew may be heading to school…

But I have a feeling graduation could take a while. 🎓😂

📚🐐 THE CHEW CREW IS GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL! 🎒🌿

That Goat Guy is adding something new—and I’m REALLY excited about this one!

We’ve been working behind the scenes to put together a hands-on livestock and goatscaping educational program for kids. 🐐🐑🌱

Because there’s a whole lot more to the Chew Crew than:

“LOOK! GOATS!” 😂

We’ll be teaching kids about the animals, how goatscaping works, livestock care, agriculture, soil health, fencing, and some of the many ways animals can work alongside us to care for the land.

And, of course, the kids will get to meet some of the employees responsible for all of it. 🐐❤️

One of my favorite things about working with animals has always been the opportunity to teach people something they didn’t know before—especially kids.

So this next chapter for That Goat Guy feels pretty special.

📚 Agriculture.
🌱 Land stewardship.
🐐 Livestock.
🌿 Goatscaping.
❤️ And plenty of hands-on learning.

The Chew Crew is officially heading to school! 🎒🐐

Although I have a feeling they’re going to be much more interested in eating the landscaping than earning their diplomas. 😂🌿
