🚨 IMPORTANT: HELP US KEEP THESE DOGS SAFE! 🚨

Harrison County Animal Control is currently working to safely trap and capture 4 dogs in different locations throughout the county.

We always communicate with property owners when setting up our equipment. If you happen to see any of our traps or equipment, PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE. Moving, disturbing, or tampering with it can set our efforts back and put these dogs at risk.

🐾 IF YOU SEE ONE OF THESE DOGS:
❌ DO NOT CHASE THEM.
❌ DO NOT STOP OR APPROACH THEM.
❌ DO NOT CALL OUT TO THEM.
❌ DO NOT FEED THEM.

We know people mean well and want to help, but these dogs are already difficult to track. When they’re chased, approached, fed, or pushed out of an area, it can send them in another direction and make it much harder to safely capture them. Our biggest priority is keeping them safe.

📸 If you spot one of these dogs, please take a photo from a safe distance, if possible, and report the sighting to:

So you’re telling me Gabbie has ZERO interest?! 😭 EXCUSE ME?!

The sweetest girl in the entire world is sitting here waiting for HER person, and nobody is asking about her?! Make it make sense! 💔

Gabbie is 4 years old, around 48 pounds, and she’s looking for one very important thing in life: an emotional support human. 😂❤️ Someone to love her, give her attention, listen to her talk about her day (because this girl has THINGS to say), and remind her every single day that she’s finally home.

She doesn’t need a million people. She just needs HER person.

Can we please get Gabbie some attention?! Share her, tag your friends, tell your coworkers. Somewhere out there is a human who needs this girl just as much as she needs them.

😎💙 THE NAME IS RIZZ… AND YES, HE’S GOT IT!

Meet Rizz! This handsome gentleman was found as a “stray” and, unfortunately, was never reclaimed. 🥺

Rizz is a neutered male weighing just 42 pounds, and he’s the definition of a gentle soul! He’s more laidback, sweet as can be, and seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. We think his easygoing personality could make him a great fit for a family with kids, too! 🐾

He’s got the looks, he’s got the personality, and apparently, he’s got the RIZZ! 😉 Now all this gentleman needs is someone to fall in love with him and give him the happily ever after he deserves.

HARRISON COUNTY, WE’RE BACK ON THE ROAD X 2!!! 🚚🚚

In spring, we let you know that response times were taking a little longer than usual because one of our trucks was out of service and we were waiting on its replacement. Well, the wait is OVER, our new truck is HERE! 🎉

We are SO excited to have another vehicle on the road and be able to serve our community more efficiently. Every minute matters when it comes to helping animals in need, and having reliable equipment makes a huge difference in what we can do for Harrison County.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked through this. We’re ready to keep moving, keep responding, and keep showing up for the animals and people who need us! 🐾💙

🐾❤️ OCTOBER IS PIT BULL AWARENESS MONTH! ❤️🐾

Did you know we currently have TWO pit mixes looking for their happily ever after at Harrison County Animal Control? Nova Jo (SF) and RePete (M)! 🐶

But first, let’s talk about what a pit bull actually is!

The term “pit bull” is an umbrella term, not one single breed. It’s commonly used to describe several breeds and mixed-breed dogs, including American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and American Bullies. Many dogs labeled as pit bulls are mixes, too!

In fact, identifying a dog’s breed by appearance alone can be surprisingly difficult. A blocky head or muscular build doesn’t tell you everything about a dog’s genetics, personality, or behavior. ❤️

🐾 So why does this matter?

Dogs labeled as pit bulls can face extra challenges finding homes because of the stereotypes attached to that label. Every dog is an individual, and their personality, history, socialization, and individual needs matter when finding the right home.

Here at HCAC, we want people to look beyond a label and get to know the dog in front of them!

❤️ Nova Jo and RePete are more than a label on a kennel card. They’re two individual dogs waiting for someone to see them for who they are and give them a chance at a loving home.

This Pit Bull Awareness Month, let’s challenge assumptions, spread awareness, and encourage people to meet the dog before making up their minds.

Which means our boys and girls are getting pumpkin cupcakes because, let’s be honest, they deserve ALL the treats for being the best boys and girls! 🧁🐾
