At minimum, your breeder should be doing Echoes and holters and showing them to you or they should be posted on the OFA website.

Once a cardiologist has reviewed these, they will be updated to her OFA link.

Health testing alone doesn't mean well bred.
Winning Champion lines alone doesn't mean well bred.
Titled dogs alone doesn't mean well bred.
Good temperament alone doesn't mean well bred.

Purebred doesn't mean well bred!

WELL BRED means all of the above plus breeder choices.

The breeder doesn't just put two dogs together randomly. They chose parents based on temperament, health, and how well they match the breed standard (what that breed is supposed to be like physically and behaviorally).

They also provide proper early care. Puppies are raised in a clean, socialized environment, handled regularly, and exposed to normal sights/sounds, early neurological stimulation and doing weight and health checks.

Great breeders have contracts for you to adhere to.

Lastly, great breeders don't make good money, they are in it to better the breed. There are plenty of sh*tty breeders that charge what a great breeder charges.
Cost comparison doesn't mean anything when it comes to buying puppies. Not a damn thing. I wish it did!

Don't support back yard breeding. Educate yourself about what makes a well bred dog instead.

DPCA vs. UDC — What’s the Difference?

Recently we shared a social media post that originated with the United Doberman Club (UDC) about what to look for when buying a Doberman puppy. It’s a great example of how the missions of different Doberman organizations often overlap, especially when it comes to promoting responsible ownership and protecting the future of the breed.

From time to time people ask about the difference between the Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA) and the UDC. Both organizations care deeply about the Doberman breed, but they approach that mission a little differently.

The DPCA is the official parent club for Doberman Pinschers in the United States and is recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). The DPCA maintains the official breed standard used in AKC conformation shows and supports the breed through education, health research, rescue, and preservation efforts. Many local Doberman clubs across the country are DPCA chapter clubs.

The UDC, founded in 1991, focuses heavily on preserving the Doberman’s heritage as a working dog. The club is closely connected with working-dog organizations and emphasizes activities such as IGP (Schutzhund), tracking, and other working sports. UDC events often highlight both temperament and working ability alongside structure.

Our club, the Doberman Pinscher Club of Sacramento (DPCS), is proud to be a DPCA Chapter Club, which means conformation and the breed standard are an important part of what we do. But at heart, we’re simply a group of people who love Dobermans. Our members enjoy many different activities with their dogs — including conformation, obedience, agility, scent work, therapy work, and IGP. Some of our members belong to both national clubs. That kind of overlap is very common in the Doberman community and reflects the breed’s unique combination of beauty, intelligence, and working ability.

Because Dobermans were originally developed as versatile working dogs, we appreciate and celebrate all the ways people enjoy and work with the breed, whether that’s in the show ring, on the training field, or as a beloved companion at home.
