Second time splitting the biggest hive I've got this season. Over the last 4 weeks I've seen 17 queen cells in it and after two splits I'm gonna let them requeen this time. Queen cells in the marked souper was fun to remove.

Well sadly this past winters heavy snowfall prevented me from accessing most of the hives I had. At one property I lost 4 out of 5 due to mice getting inside and making themselves at home. This one had a mouse in it but I got to it in time and they killed it off when I poked the hive trying to get the mouse out. I've since replaced wooden reducers with metal mouse gaurds.

Always so disappointing losing one right before winter sets in. Saw two mites, a queen cell and loads of dead bees.

Sugar water.
Pollen pattie.
No smoke used. Surprisingly gentle, very pleasantly surprised.
