This morning, our NPIP lady was out to swab our birds for the second time this year. I always have a list of questions to ask her, and today she asked if we were going to start showing our birds. I told her we would like to show for the first time in 2027. She then told us we have some show birds, which made us feel pretty good!

This Buff Leghorn pullet is around 5 months old.

One of my favorite Chamois Appenzeller Spitzhaubens we are raising. I’ve really been keeping my eye on this one, and I thought he was a girl up until today. At 8 weeks old, the red is starting to come in, and now I’m certain he’s a male. I have a feeling he’s going to be a very handsome guy.

We have some project Leghorns looking for new homes. These girls can be repurposed as layers for someone’s flock.

We purchased these as chicks and were supposed to receive Mille Fleur Leghorns, but none of them developed that color pattern, so we are labeling them as projects. They are skittish.

Three of our Americana Frizzle keepers. These guys are 4–6 months. 2027 will yield our 7th generation of these guys.

If you’ve ever heard the saying “can’t stir them with a stick,” that is an accurate description of Pigeon Forge this weekend with the Rod Run!

Who’s excited for some Buff Laced Polish Frizzles next season?!

I know we are! Even though we only got one frizzle before our hens stopped laying, I’m so grateful to have a second frizzle on board. 🥰

One of our 6-week-old Creme Appenzeller Spitzhaubens.

Out of the 30 Appenzellers we purchased, only 6 have the potential to be breeders. The rest have flaws that should never be used for breeding, such as a backward-facing crest or not having a perfect V comb.

Two standard birds can still produce a defective bird, and on the other hand, two birds can sometimes outproduce themselves.
