Kizzy had a big day today! We had our first full ride up the driveway, around the parking lot, and up to the big arena. Here’s what made it a success:
✅ Make a game of it: I used every shadow cast onto the pavement as a stopping place - this helped us to not over do it by walking on too far without a break.
✅ This is all about changing the mindset: before going to our next shadow I waited for some sign of release. In the beginning I gave longer pauses so that her brain had time to process what she was experiencing.
✅ Talk to your horse: I used words/phrases like “let’s get to the next shadow”, “walk on”, “ease”, and “woah”. Talking through things doesn’t only help relax the horse - it relaxes the human too.
✅ Clear communication: accurately using pressure, release, timing, and feel is VERY important when working with a horse that is sensitive or escalating. I really over emphasized the release because I want her to know exactly what I’m rewarding. Remember - the horse has a 3 second threshold for learning so that release has to be on point.
✅ Do the same thing on the way back to the barn: like most horses Kizz quickened when we began to turn home. The exercise was the same only in added slow/intentional steps so that she would stay connected to me, not just doing her own thing. By time we were half way back she was so relaxed.

What was super cool about this is I yawned just as much if not more than Kizzy. So we both were able to really relax together. Go Kizzy!

Happy Monday from Mr. Nugget and I 💕

Nugget had a lovely morning session today. Tried something different today to help him at the walk - I started my warm up at the trot then swung walking back in after a few circles in each direction.

Nugget is only 4 and very mature for his age. Even still, he can get bored when doing things at the walk. This was a great exercise to help him get connected in body and mind to focus on lateral work at the walk.

We also managed to get several balanced strides at the canter which was awesome! Def a bonus! Good boy, Nugget!

Shade has a new found love of jumping 😅😂 He went from trying to avoid poles completely/just blowing through threw them without care to now trying to take riders over jumps without being asked 🤦🏾‍♀️ literally no in between 🤣

We wanted to introduce poles/low jumps to get him to engage his core and to think more carefully about where his legs are in space. He’s improved massively but we still have some work to do! Just look at how each leg goes over it just cracks me up 🤣

Shout out to Ava for working with him on this even though it was awkward. She handled it so well!

Started work on ponying with Beau and Pepper today. Let’s just say the sibling drama is real 🤣 surprisingly, most of the sass came from baby Beau! Their interactions weren’t as relaxed as I’d like it to be so it turned into an all groundwork session. We’ll keep prioritizing mindset and proprioception to eventually overcome this challenge. Good ponies 🥰

We had a great session with Eden last week introducing her to different obstacles. Her ability to recover from escalation and stress is incredible! The Mustang is quickly turning into my favorite breed!

Big shout out to Alicia for the way she is able to ground herself and how quickly she has been able to understand and apply training theory! Amazing work you two!
