Why the stud dog a breeder chooses matters, consistency from decades of line breeding, well thought out outcrosses, locking in phenotype, correct structure and movement, temperament and health. Breeding consists of much more than mating two AKC registered dogs of the same breed.

Akitas lived with samurai; they were originally used by the samurai as hunting dogs, guard dogs, and companions. As the breed became more revered, ownership was restricted to the samurai class and nobility, symbolizing courage and loyalty.

Hunting and guarding: Akitas were bred to hunt large game like bears, and their strength and courage made them excellent guardians for samurai. Akitas lived in villages and guarded the people against marauding bears 🐻 which are still a problem to this day.

Companions: Akitas were also loyal companions to the samurai, and their bond was so strong that a legend says a dishonored samurai could be reborn as an Akita to die defending his master and regain his honor.

Symbol of nobility: Over time, owning an Akita became a symbol of wealth and status, and ownership was restricted to the samurai and the imperial family.

At 15 months old Valkyrie finished her Championship title with limited showing. Gaining her first major at the Akita Nationals in Springfield, Missouri, under judge Beth Downey. Valkyrie had a fantastic week at the Akita Nationals with three 1st Place group placements, Reserve Winners Bitch in a group of 22, 2nd Place in the Akita Pre-National, and 3rd place in Sweepstakes. She gained her next two majors in Fort Wayne, Indiana the following weekend. One major was under esteemed judge Mr. Sei-Ichiro Ishimaru, from Japan. Valkyrie won Winner's Bitch and Best of Opposite S*x three days, became a champion and won Best of Breed the last day. My special girl has the best temperament and sailed through the airport while traveling, acting as a therapy dog when we encountered a convention of quadriplegics who survived sepsis. Valkyrie has excellent discernment and is a sweet loving girl.
