September is Happy Healthy Cat Month, and there's one stat worth sitting with: only 57% of cat owners get their cat to the vet every year, compared to 74% of dog owners.
Part of the gap is that cats are just really good at hiding when something's wrong. It's an old survival instinct -- in the wild, looking sick made them a target, so they learned to mask it. That means the vet visit gets put off simply because everything looks fine at home.
A few subtle signs worth watching for: changes in the litter box (more, less, or straining), any sudden shift in appetite or thirst, grooming that's suddenly excessive or has stopped, and more hiding, sleeping, or stiffness than usual.
This is exactly what our cat sitters are trained to notice on every visit here in Seattle, West Seattle, and the Eastside -- small changes get written down and passed along to you, because you can't catch what you don't see.
