A dying Bernese Mountain Dog got one last snow day because a community of strangers refused to let her miss it. ❤️🐾❄️
Brooke was 11½ years old and had been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Her family knew she only had days left.
And they knew something else, too.
Brooke absolutely loved snow.
She wouldn’t make it to winter, so her family turned to Reddit with one simple request: Did anyone know where they could find a pile of snow where Brooke could enjoy one final day doing what she loved?
Hundreds of people responded.
Then someone offered to help.
They worked at an ice rink and knew exactly where there was plenty of snow.
Soon, Brooke’s family was heading to Bowness Sportsplex in Calgary.
The staff had started piling snow outside specifically for her.
And Brooke got her snow day. 🥹❄️
She got to lie in the snow.
She got to feel the cold beneath her.
She got to enjoy one of her favorite things with the people she loved most.
Sadly, it really was her last.
A few hours after returning home, Brooke passed away.
Her family carried her onto the shady front lawn, where she spent her final hours surrounded by the people who had loved her throughout her life.
They said their goodbyes.
She gave them kisses.
And then she peacefully let go.
Brooke didn’t get another winter.
But because strangers cared enough to respond to one family’s unusual request, she didn’t have to leave this world without one final snow day.
She spent her last day doing something she loved, surrounded by the people she loved.
And when the time came to say goodbye, she wasn’t alone. ❤️🐶❄️
Sometimes you can’t change the ending.
But you can make the final chapter beautiful.
Rest well, Brooke. You won’t be forgotten. 🕊️🐾❄️
