Feeding Doodles! I just shared this information to Golden Doodle Lovers... a great site for doodle owners. Thought I should share it here on my our own site as well!!
How do I feed our babies? We add ground meat (in our small grinder) and a variety of vegetables - frozen, canned, or fresh to their food. Then grind in our chopper/grinder. (We had to buy one).
We presently use the Solid Gold Sensitive Stomach - cold water salmon & vegetable (grain free/gluten free) brand dog food. We also use the Bisen - Brown Rice Sweet potatoes (Solid Gold ). They love it second best.
It's a learning curb with doodles, they have individualized preferences. And may be gluten intolerant and have allergies such as chicken. Chicken seems to be a primary one.
Our 1 doodle
tends to be a grazer so we leave dry food out for him in the day.
One doodle from our puppy litter grazes only and the family use a puzzle tray with a variety of peek a-boo sliders. He has been the pickiest out of all our doggies.?
Just like a preschool child they can be "oh so picky". Or not at all.
DO BE observant to food allergies such as the big chicken allergy and other intolerances. Our 1 doodle will itch with both chicken and ham. He will also start chewing his paws because they itch si bad.
This same doodle also got a horrific ear infection before 1 year.
It was very costly. (Over $1000).
I did learn from GOLDEN DOODLE WORLD- For ear issues: 1/3 apple cider vinegar with 2/3 water. Use a dropper and put in their ears daily. Then put in ears a few times a week when not having a problem. Our vet advised us to also do saline rinses. Which he then sold me a bottle. Saline rinses should really be done after every bathing or swimming.
(We also bought tiny mustache scissors to clip the hair out of this one's ears. Its important to keep the hair trimmed down in their ears.
Wit our dog food: We started out using the farmer dog frozen brand. We loved it, but it was too costly with our 3 doodles. We then started adding our own veggies and meat. We found if we feed them 2x a day - a bit later works such as 12. Sometimes they eat less or not at all. So be it, we put a lid on it and add it to their pm food - refreshing it. We have noticed they will be less hungry with a few too many snacks or treats in the day. That includes table food snacks.
