Does your cat really love you—or do they just want food? 🐱🤍

Of course, treats get their attention. But what about the moments when there’s no food involved?

When they choose to sit beside you. Follow you into another room. Rub their face against yours. Or fall asleep close to you when they could sleep anywhere else.

Food can be part of your bond, but it doesn’t explain every moment of closeness.

This is Chanel. She’s one of my very first cats, and she’s always loved cuddles and kisses—even when my hands are empty.

I can’t ask her how she feels. But when she comes over just to be close, it feels a lot like love.

🍂 Fall is here, and your cat starts sneezing. Could an open window be to blame?

We often associate sniffles with chilly weather. But a draft alone doesn’t cause a respiratory infection.

For a healthy adult cat in a comfortably warm home, lounging by a window is unlikely to cause true hypothermia. Prolonged exposure to cold or damp conditions can still be harmful.

🐱 So why is your cat sneezing?

An occasional sneeze may be triggered by dust, litter, perfume, or cleaning sprays.

Repeated sneezing, a runny nose, and watery eyes can be signs of an upper respiratory infection, including feline herpesvirus or calicivirus. An existing infection can also flare up during stress.

These infections are sometimes called “cat flu,” but that usually doesn’t mean the seasonal flu people get.

❄️ What about hypothermia?

Hypothermia is a dangerous drop in body temperature. It can cause weakness, reduced alertness, and slow breathing—not simply a few sneezes or a runny nose.

Keep your cat warm and comfortable this fall, but don’t dismiss ongoing symptoms as “just the cold weather.”

Contact your vet if sneezing persists or your cat develops nasal discharge, coughing, low energy, or a reduced appetite. Difficulty breathing or open-mouth breathing requires urgent veterinary care.
