Annie (Route 4 Deadwood Annie Get Your Gun) X Iggy (Kamiah’s Iggy Moose)
This pregnancy is NOT yet confirmed, but is expected the first of October. Going home at the end of November.
Those of you who follow us know that we have several litters each year. And, if you follow us, you know that we are VERY INTENTIONAL in our breedings and hold very high standards. Years ago, an extremely well respected Canadian breeder told me, "I never put two dogs together unless I believe the results will be spectacular." I thought he was a very good salesman; in time, I learned that he is an exceptional breeder (his boy, Riopel, a high-quality French import, is the sire of Iggy - a spectacular dog).
We do our best to build the same level of world class results into our breeding program. When every pairing is "spectacular" though, it can be difficult to give the discriminating puppy hunter a clear description of how each pairing stands out. Bear with me as I brag, yet again, about another spectacular litter.
Our A Litter was an experiment as we dipped our toes into the whole idea of breeding. Our girl, Charlie, was a very nice Griff, but not nearly the quality of breeding stock we have today. Of all the many lessons we learned with Charlie, chief among them was that breeding is far too much work to attempt with "average" dogs. Our first attempt at breeding sent us down a rigorous path to find what we considered the very best hunting Griffons in the country. We stumbled our way into an immeasurably valuable mentorship with Larry and Paula Woodward of Aux Lake Kennels in Kansas. I begged and pleaded and twisted Larry's arm until he finally parted with our first high-quality girl, Aux Lake FF Lily. She truly was spectacular. She gave us our B and D litters. Today, we repeatedly get referrals of people who meet the B and D pups and have to have one just like them.
Just as Lily was giving us her first litter, we stumbled on to a humble, quiet breeder in Missouri (Route4 – Miles Spainhower) who was quietly producing very fine gun dogs. Miles had a litter out of the same sire that produced our Lily. We were delighted to get Annie from that litter. She immediately showed one of the finest coats we’ve ever had in our pack. Her intense eye contact, her love of water, and her cooperative temperament made for an excellent addition to our pack. Annie has proven her hunt credentials by earning a NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize I and a respectable Prize III on her Utility Test.
But wait, there's more . . . What if I could pair this high quality girl with a boy who adds a little pizzazz to the equation? Enter Iggy . . .
Iggy is from our "I" litter and is the product of Tillie and Riopel. We always considered Tillie our "French" Griffon because much of her bloodline traces to high-quality dogs imported from France. When I had the chance to breed her to a French import (Riopel) imported by the Duchasseur Kennel in Quebec, Canada, I jumped at the chance and travelled to Canada to produce the I Litter. Iggy was originally sold to a family in Alabama. Unfortunately for them (but very fortunate for us), they ran into scheduling conflicts that prevented them from giving Iggy the care he deserved. We took Iggy in to give him the care he needed. WE DON'T KEEP BOYS. But I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to let Iggy go. Eventually, we found Iggy the perfect home right here in Georgia where we can keep him close. We breed first for temperament and second for coat. On both counts, Iggy is a TEN!! I think Iggy is the sweetest, friendliest, most attentive Griffon I've ever met (and I've met quite a few). Pair Iggy's love of the hunt, his stunning good looks, and his goofy, affable nature with everything Annie brings to the table, and the result should be nothing less than "spectacular."
We expect these pups to have exceptional hunt coats, a natural love of water, and a highly biddable, cooperative temperament. Both parents have excellent structure, great health, and a low-maintenance, fast-drying, quality coat.
