If your pets aren't up to date on their rabies vaccine or you aren't sure, please give us a call and get them scheduled for one ASAP. Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can be spread through bites or scratches from an infected animal. Protect your pets today!

A bat found in the 1000 block of Worthington Dr. in Hoffman Estates on Sept. 2 has tested positive for rabies, according to Cook County Animal and Rabies Control officials.

The public is advised not to handle bats or any other wild animals. Report dead bats or skunks on private properties or on roadways by calling Cook County Animal and Rabies Control at (708) 974-6140.

Animal control officials ask anyone who has been bitten by a bat or has had potential exposure to a bat to contact a medical provider. Residents are reminded to make sure pets are current on their rabies vaccinations and to keep dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash or supervised outdoors.

Did you know? Because Golf Rose works so closely with many animal control agencies, we sometimes see wildlife come through our doors. Our hospital is not equipped to provide full care to these animals, but our doctors do their best to stabilize them until a local wildlife rehabilitation center can pick them up. On this National Wildlife Day, please help us thank the wonderful wildlife organizations we work with and consider donating or volunteering with them to help their cause. Special shout out to Anderson Humane and Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation! Thanks to them, we can help more animals!
