Adopted
Lena is an approximately 1 year old Poodle. She’s spayed, current on vaccines, and heartworm negative. This dog has been through A LOT and she deserves a very good, loving, permanent home now. She’s very sweet but cautious at first, and her trust has to be earned. She’s gained more than 10 pounds in a month, she was a skeleton at intake.
Lena needs someone committed to regular grooming, basic obedience training, and exercise.
Here is more information from her foster mom:
"Galena (Lena) Hope
"Resilience & Survival"
Lena was picked up as a stray by Chatham County Animal Services on April 9, 2026. She was filthy, reeked of urine, completely matted & extremely emaciated. During her shave down, she never once growled, lifted her lip or tried to bite. She stood there, as if she just knew I was there to help her. After removing 2 pounds of fur, she weighed an alarming 29 pounds.
After a good, long bath, I took Lena home & allowed her 3-4 days to decompress before introducing her to my dogs. For a stray, she surprisingly walked well on a leash. She was continuously looking back at me, checking in, like there was 'some' foundation already started with her.
She was SO excited when she met my crew!! After several days of walking the property along with the boys, I crossed my fingers & decided to try her off leash. This girl ran like the wind!! They had a blast!! Aaaand, she came right back to me!! This girl will not be a couch potato! She has a ton of energy & will need to be with someone who will exercise her & make sure she gets her energy burns!
Lena was shy & still uncertain about so many things when we went to public places, but over the past 3 weeks, she has really come out of her shell & continues to gain more & more confidence everyday.
She WILL rob your trashcan, counters or wherever she can find remnants of snacks, so you will HAVE to be mindful of those things.
Lena is completely crate trained & she does really well in the house but has had a couple of accidents. I think this will resolve & not be a problem as she continues to come out of 'survival mode'.
I was afraid that Lena would have food aggression, due to be her being starved, but she has never growled or tried to nip/bite . Even if I reach in to take her bowl of food away while she's eating it. She even takes treats gently.
Those legs tho!! Lena is like Bambi on ice. She will throw those front legs around like a cheerleader waving pom poms. When her & my boys are standing at the front door, waiting to come back inside, she gets excited & throws her front legs over the boys like she's hugging her long lost bestie.
She is the sweetest, most resilient pup I've ever met. She's like a Timex... takes a licking & keeps on ticking.
Lena will be a Velcro dog. She yearns for connection & your attention. She will love you, wants to be with you & will follow you wherever you go, your Bestie for the Restie!! 🥰.
