Doing a little surgery on these AquaIllumination Sol SuperBlues. One of my favorite lights. Long lasting, hefty heatsink, and really nice color, especially for photos. These lights are about 16 years old, and PAR output is half of new. 4 lights done, 4 more to go. At $35 for new diodes from DigiKey and an hour of time for each fixture, it beats buying new lights.

Need to make space for a major overhaul.

Once a year or so, its good to pull out some rock and really siphon the detritus out. I do siphon the accessible mulm every 2 weeks, but alot can pile up under rock, ceramic tiles, etc. The signs of a problem start slow, until at one point, everything comes to a head.
Small patches of cyano, dark, nearly black algae tufts, and more, are all signs of an impeding disaster. Admittedly, this tank really needs at least twice the water flow.
