It's !😵💫
Today we are addressing the myths around allergies!🤧
📢Claim: "Grain-free is actually better and helps with allergies"
That is a🥁.......🥁MYTH!
🐾 Grains provide valuable nutrients for pets and the chances of your pet having an allergy to grains is incredibly low. Most food allergies are tied to proteins like chicken, beef, soy, even lamb or salmon. The FDA has also linked grain-free diets to heart problems like dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) so feeding your pet a grain-free diet is not recommended.
📢Claim: "Antihistamines like Benadryl can effectively treat my pet’s allergies"
That is a🥁.......🥁MYTH!
🐾Allergic pets usually show signs on their skin, such as heavy scratching, licking paws, chewing skin, and chronic ear infections, not necessarily upper respiratory signs. Because of this, antihistamines can be ineffective. For pets with chronic allergies, long-term veterinary specific medication is recommended for allergy control.
📢Claim: "My dog is itchy because of fleas, not because of allergies"
That is a🥁.......🥁MYTH!
🐾It's both! Pets can be itchy just due to having an active flea infection, however pets can also have flea allergic dermatits (FAD), meaning they are literally allergic to fleas. While your pet may not have a full-blown infestation partying it up, even one flea bite can send your pet's immune system into full blown war on the skin. Inflammation, hair loss, scabbing and even skin infection. Pets with suspected FAD are recommend to stay on monthly flea prevention to keep your pet from having another flare up.
