The Horse Project

The Horse Project The Horse Project rehabilitates, and re-homes rescued horses who have been abandoned and neglected Ruby and Renie were our first two horses.

The Horse Project works to ready rescued horses for new and caring homes that best suit their individual skills, talents and potential. We are an all-volunteer group partnering with professionals for the horses's health, conditioning, and ground and under saddle training. Renie, a 5 year old registered Arabian taken from a bankrupt breeding farm, came to us after complications from his gelding. He

was anxious, biting, and had never been ridden. Ruby at age 2 was found in a Santa Ynez riverbed with her mom, a registered thoroughbred, and another mare. She’d never been around people, rushed away from any contact, trembled with fear when even a handful of water was near and reared every few steps when she was led out for exercise. Both these beautiful horses found homes after they overcame their fears, discovered they could trust people, learned manners and developed as dependable, skilled riding partners. Many more horses are waiting their turn to enter The Project and find the right new homes and healthy relationship where each horse's true self, the talents we have uncovered and the skills developed, are appreciated and flourish.

Crane school students visited today to meet the horses they had previously painted from pictures. They sold the horse portraits and baked goods to make a donation to the The Horse Project.🙏
These wonderful kids groomed, walked, fed and connected with our sanctuary herd. So fun to have them visit! 🐴💚
