DON'T JUST TAKE THE DOG FOR A WALK ⚡️

Of course, once a month is just the minimum to be moving tactically during searches. Far too often I see handlers just simply calling the alert while on lead casually walking behind the dog. That is fine on the occasion but don't make it a staple.

Move like you mean it in training! 🤙🏻

HANDS ON WITH THE TEAM ⚡️

Team bonding with the operators for full integration. SWAT dogs need to be calm and clear headed as we all know. We have a few tricks to make that happen. 👊🏻

HARD KNEES AND LEFT TURNS 💥

I see this a lot when handlers are first teaching a left turn. They use their right knee to bump the dog’s face and push them into position. It can create unnecessary conflict during obedience. Not to mention it looks ridiculous.

I prefer to pair a quick e-collar nick with a leash pop as the dog learns the turn. With repetition, the dog starts turning with me and avoids the leash pop before it’s needed.

Note this handler had obedience sharp as a tack and did not have the issues with his left turn and right knee. I wanted to keep it that way by providing this example. 🤙🏻
