Like it or not, the 4th of July is coming, and for most pets, it is not a pleasant day/evening

The sudden booms, flashing lights, vibration, wind, rain, and pressure changes can leave pets feeling scared, unsettled, and overwhelmed. Some pets hide. Some shake. Some pant, pace, bark, drool, or cling to their person. Others may refuse food, have accidents in the house, or try to escape.

If your pet struggles during fireworks or storms, you are not alone. Noise sensitivity is common in both dogs and cats, and preparation can make a big difference.

At Farley’s Green Paw Consulting, we believe in supporting the whole pet with a thoughtful, natural approach whenever possible — and an integrative approach when additional support is needed.

Fireworks and thunderstorms can be scary for dogs and cats.

Some pets shake, hide, pant, pace, bark, cling to their person, or refuse to go outside once the noise starts.

A few simple ways to help before the booms begin:

🐾 Bring pets inside early
🐾 Take dogs out before dark or before storms roll in
🐾 Close windows, blinds, and curtains
🐾 Use a fan, TV, or calming music for background noise
🐾 Create a quiet space with familiar bedding
🐾 Make sure ID tags and microchip information are updated
🐾 Start calming support before your pet is already overwhelmed

The biggest thing to remember: prepare early.

Once a pet is already in full stress mode, it can be harder to help them settle.
