Dream and Bean — two little weens! 🐾🤎

Both of these sweet girls were struggling with some anxiety and unwanted behaviors. On leash, they would pull and become reactive. In the home, they were having difficulty settling in the crate, and one of the girls was also struggling with potty training.

So we went back to the basics and focused on place training, leash work, structure, boundaries, rules, and clear communication.

The goal isn’t to take away their personalities or expect perfection. It’s to give them more clarity and stability so they don’t feel like they have to worry about or react to everything around them.

When dogs understand what’s expected of them and we provide calm, consistent guidance, they can start to relax. ❤️

More clarity. More stability. Less anxiety.

So proud of these two little weens and the progress they’re making! 🐾

This is Roxy, my Belgian Malinois. ❤️

Roxy was on death row, and a rescue pulled her the day she was scheduled to be euthanized.

When Roxy came to me, she actually had a lot of training—but unfortunately, it wasn’t good training. Instead of giving her clarity and confidence, it had left her extremely confused, insecure, and fearful of people.

She knew commands, but she didn’t know how to simply exist and be a dog.

And that’s something I think we sometimes forget: a trained dog and a confident, emotionally balanced dog are not necessarily the same thing.

Roxy needed someone to slow everything down and start rebuilding her from the inside out. She needed clarity. She needed consistency. She needed boundaries. But she also needed patience, understanding, and someone willing to listen to what she was communicating.

I truly believe that without that guidance, Roxy’s story could have ended very differently. I also knew I couldn’t responsibly adopt her out in the state she was in, so I kept working with the dog in front of me.

And somewhere along the way… Roxy became mine. ❤️

When giving your puppy a high-value chew, remember that their little bodies may need time to adjust. We don’t want an upset stomach, so I usually start with about 10 minutes at a time.

As you can see in the video, I give Poppy the chew, take it away, and then give it back. This helps teach her that she doesn’t need to guard it or become possessive. I also make sure she isn’t being pushy—the chew is something I give her as a reward, not something she demands from me.

Another important boundary: don’t pet, hover over, or constantly bother your puppy while they’re enjoying their chew. Give them space to relax and enjoy it.

Boundaries go both ways. One of the best things we can do is respect our dogs’ boundaries while teaching them to respect ours. 🐾

Clear expectations. Mutual respect. Better communication. ❤️

Poppy’s first outing! 🐾💕

Obviously, I’m carrying her because she’s not fully vaccinated yet—but that doesn’t mean she can’t safely get out with me and start experiencing the world.

For her first outing, I decided to visit one of my favorite pet stores here in National City, Hers Pet Shop. It’s a quieter environment without a ton going on, which made it a great place for her first experience. We only stayed for about 15 minutes.

When you’re taking your new puppy out, keep those first outings short and sweet. You don’t need to overwhelm them with too much, too fast. Keep your energy calm, let them observe, and allow them to take everything in at their own pace.

You can see Poppy isn’t worried—she’s looking around, she’s not stressed, she’s not panting, and she’s not trying to escape the situation. She’s simply absorbing her new environment. ❤️

Socialization isn’t about throwing your puppy into every situation possible. It’s about creating calm, positive exposure and building confidence one experience at a time. 🐶🐾
