If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them
As temperatures drop below freezing, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reminds all residents that leaving pets outdoors without adequate protection is a violation of the law. State law strictly prohibits leaving dogs restrained outside during extreme weather advisories or in temperatures below 32°F without proper shelter, which must include a sturdy roof, floor, and solid walls.
Failure to provide necessary food, water, or adequate shelter can result in criminal Animal Cruelty charges, carrying penalties of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. If you see an animal in distress in unincorporated Bexar County, call us immediately at 210-335-6000. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Bring them indoors!
