We pride ourselves in providing a unique approach to rehabilitating these wonderful equines through patience, trust, years of exp

in an environment that benefits both the horse and the adoptive family. is dedicated to horse welfare and is an ALL breed horse rescue; we have no limits to the age, breed, gender, condition etc. of horses needing to come in. frequently works with Animal Control and Law Enforcement officers on abuse and neglect cases where equines are in need of being impounded, rehabilitated, and re homed. We also accept horses surrendered by private owners that can no longer provide a home for their horse.

NEW WORLD SCREWWORM PREVENTION
Our location is currently placed on “high alert” for the New World Screwworm as we are only 65 miles NE of a reported case.
We have spoken to our vet and are frequently going on the USDA and the TAHC websites to get updated information.

OUR PREVENTION PROTOCOLS:
• All of our horses and donkeys have been wormed with Ivermectin which kills the Screwworm larvae (maggots)

• All of our horses and donkeys are being checked daily for sores or injuries. We currently have no injuries but we do have 4 with some sores. The sores have been thoroughly cleaned with Iodine wash, treated and covered with Alu-mend which puts a protective, waterproof layer over the area.

• We have hung XL fly trap bags in 6 locations, approximately 30 feet away from the stables to draw the flies away from the horses and donkeys.

• We have 12 fly trap sticks hanging in the stables and outside stalls

• All of our horses and donkeys have fly masks on.

• Our horses and donkeys stalls and runs are cleaned daily, and the manure is taken approximately 120 feet from the stables.

• We are stocked up on sweat resistant fly spray and are spraying the horses and donkeys every couple of days.

This is a very concerning situation. We are doing everything we can to protect our herd. Prayers and donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated as these preventives are not cheap. In the past week we have spent over $500 in prevention.

BEACON AND COLONEL UPDATE
Our vet came out yesterday to float Colonel and Beacons teeth. He checked them over, beaned them, and gave them each a 6 way vaccination and tetanus shot.
Beacon and Colonel are generally in good health although they are still underweight. They had a lot of worms when they came in. Especially Colonel who had mild colic after his first worming dose. Colonel is doing well now but we will watch them both closely during their next round of wormer.

Our vet also checked Misfit who has been lame for a few days. She had an abscess in her hoof which is now opened and drained so she should be feeling much better soon.

Thank you so much to C&J who donated today’s vet expenses. We appreciate it very much.

This morning Logan and I got a new top had door built and installed a top half door for Button and Gus. This will help stop rain from coming in their stall.

All of the horses and donkeys are fed, hayed, automatic waterers cleaned, eyes cleaned, aisle cleaned, and they all have had a good back scratch.
They are now all happily munching hay under their fans

FUNNY FACE DAY 😜
Today is worming day which usually leads to some funny faces. Misfit and Remmy had the funniest faces today.

Colonel and Beacon have started their worming regiment. They have to be wormed several times to clear all of the worms. If you give them too much at the start you can shock their system or make them toxic from all of the dead worms.

Day 1: a half dose of ivermectin
Day 7: a full dose of ivermectin.
Day 21: a full dose of pyrantel pamoate
Day 35: a double dose of pyrantel pamoate
