COVID-19 Clinic Update:

It seems that every day there are new changes associated with the current pandemic, and we wanted to let our clients know what changes we are making to help you and your pets during this trying time. Many of the changes are due to recommendations by the CDC and the TVMA.

As of now there are no known COVID-19 infections reported in our pet population and there have been no known transmission from pets to people. However, you should always use good hygiene and wash your hands frequently after handling your pets. And if you are ill it is best to have someone else care for your pet whenever possible.

As far as changes here at the clinic, most are being implemented to decrease your exposure to other people and to keep the staff from being exposed to those who may be carrying the virus but not showing clinical signs. The CDC recommends a six foot personal distance from people and covering sneezes and coughs, as well as using hand sanitizers and frequent hand washing. We are sterilizing the exam rooms after every patient as always and increasing the cleaning and sterilization of the waiting area. The chairs in the waiting area have been removed and we ask that time spent in the common areas are kept to a minimum.

Other things you can do to help are as follows:

-Hand sanitizer is available at the check-in counter. Please use when you arrive and before you leave.

-If you have an appointment give us a call at (210) 699-3939 from your vehicle to let us know you have arrived. When the lobby is empty we will notify you to come in and a receptionist will be waiting to es**rt you to an exam room.

-Only one person per pet needs to be at the appointment.

-If you need medications refilled, please call ahead so we will have it ready when you arrive. Please call our office when you arrive, so we can let you know when the lobby is empty and you can come in. To make things easier, you can pay over the phone with a credit card.

-Puppy and kitten boosters need to be done on schedule, do not postpone these if at all possible. Wellness exams and routine testing visits can be delayed unless medically necessary. Of course, continue your pets monthly preventatives as usual.

-Routine grooming and baths will need to be postponed unless there is a medical need.

-If your pet has a medical emergency but you are not feeling well, (especially if you have a fever with sneezing and/or coughing) if at all possible have someone else bring your pet for its appointment. If you can not have someone else bring the pet, call us from the parking lot and we will come out to get the pet from your vehicle.

We are doing everything we can to continue to serve you and your pets needs during this difficult time. We need your help to stay safe and ask for your cooperation with these measures. With everyone's help this should be a short-term crisis and things can return to normal. We look forward to being able to shake hands and give hugs like before. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at (210) 699-3939.

We understand the concern that Coronavirus has brought to the area and we want to make you aware of the steps we are taking to protect our valued patients, clients and staff.

Currently, there is no evidence that companion animals can be infected with or spread COVID-19. We recommend you refer to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) for more information.

Pet owners, as well as our employees, who have symptoms of respiratory illness (cough, sneezing, shortness of breath, fever) are asked to stay home and not come to the hospital until they are free of fever or associated symptoms for at least 24 hours without using fever reducing medication. If you are experiencing these symptoms above and your pet has a scheduled appointment, please reach out to us to reschedule your appointment. If your pet needs medical help then we can certainly accomodate with telemedicine or we can meet you and your pet at your vehicle.

People with pets should be prepared with enough food, water and medications for your pet, in case of lockdown or self-quarantine.

โ€ข Have on hand at least a one-month supply of your petsโ€™ medications, litter, and food.
โ€ข Make sure your petsโ€™ vaccination records are current and you have copies.
โ€ข Consider the care of your pets as you put together your household readiness plan.

We will still have our normal business hours as your pets health is important to all of us here a Dezavala-Shavano Veterinary Clinic.

The wellness of you, your pets, and our staff is our number one priority.

Thank you,
