Introducing Skye. ๐
A kind mail carrier reached out for help after noticing an injured stray dog on her route. With help from neighbors, we learned that Skye had been surviving on her own for months after being left behind following an animal cruelty case. Despite multiple attempts, she managed to evade capture and continue living on her own.
Ironically, an injury to her back paw may have been what finally saved her. It got her noticed and moved her to the top of a very long list of dogs needing help.
Skye was rescued by Streethearts Project at the end of March and moved to her foster home about a month ago after receiving veterinary care and learning that people could be trusted.
Today, Skye is sweet as pie, but still timid. Loud noises, especially cars, can be scary. She isn't leash trained yet, isn't motivated by treats, and will need a patient adopter and a quiet home. She will not thrive in a home with young children.
What she does love is being outside. One of her favorite things is watching airplanes fly overhead, completely fascinated by them.
A note from Skye's foster family:
A month into fostering Skye, we've learned that progress doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes it's choosing to stay a little closer. Sometimes it's curiosity winning over fear.
And honestly? We completely understand how she evaded capture for so long. During her first few weeks with us, getting Skye to come inside felt like a calf scramble at the rodeo!
Even now, outside is still her happy place. While most dogs are begging to come inside, Skye is content soaking up the sunshine, listening to the birds, and watching the world go by.
Every day she shows us a little more trust, a little more confidence, and a little more of the sweet dog that's been there all along.
And that dog is absolutely worth waiting for. โค๏ธ
