Some often wonder...why are Maine C**n's so expensive? It's not that they're "expensive, yet they're "VALUABLE!" Maine C***s are the Golden Retrievers of cats. Gentle Giants. Incredible animals bred for their lovable temperament.
Know the difference between expense & value. There are backyard breeders that will cut corners just for profit & there are ethical breeders that will breed for passion to preserve the health & joy of these amazing lifelong companions.
Cecily Maine C***s of Florida is an ethical breeder, licensed by the State of Florida & a registered Cattery of TICA. This means annual home inspections for cleanliness, space of the Mama's & kittens, & a limited # of litters annually. We are not for profit, but for passion to preserve the lineage of this incredible breed of the largest domestic cats that will be your little spoon!
Cost vs. Value: By the time a kitten is properly placed with the right home (yes, we do screen all potential adopters), we care for & place emphasis on 1- Every parents health, prenatal care & loving daily interaction with socialization with other pets in our home. They sleep in bed with me every night. They spend time in their Catio (outdoor patio where they get sunlight, twill for birds, etc).
If you come across a Maine C**n available at a low cost- know you are getting a backyard breeder that is in it for profit. No lineage. No health testing. No echocardiograms. Likely cheap, storebought canned/bagged food full of fillers & little nutritional value. You will inherit health issues, high vet bills, & sadly potential shorter lifespan.
We are an "ETHICAL BREEDER" for passion to preserve the beautiful breed of these gentle giants. I am limited by the state to only a certain low # of litters annually. I am home inspected annually by a State Officer for cleanliness, health & records. That is valuable to any future family that adopts from Cecily Maine C***s of Florida. We also do not ship our kittens. We encourage in-person meetings of the parents & kittens to make a true connection- not based on looks alone.
I've been raising Maine C***s for 7 years & can say that I'll never be without one. They are so precious, highly intelligent, loving pets that love You, dogs & other cats. They're simply amazing!
To address cost vs. value~ before any kitten is placed to a new home...a reputable Breeder invests in the long term wellness of every Mama & kitten:
-Annual Echocardiograms for each parent ($1200 each cat)
-High nutrient, raw diet ($80/week per cat) including organic-antibiotic free- Rabbit, Duck, Beef, Chicken & Turkey
-Daily Supplements including raw Taurine, OxyMate, Spirulina, Chlorella, Omega 3's, L-lysine, etc. etc. etc.
-Exceptional pre-natal care & no more than 2 litters in their lifetime!
-Early socialization with all humans & other pets in the home which includes daily cuddles, playtime, litter training, bath & nail clipping
-Lifetime Support @ all stages of life from me as the Breeder.
Some disagree with pure-bred animals; However, pure-bred animals from an ethical breeder know what they are getting with physical proof. Personally, I have several rescue dogs & cats from the shelter & the difference is you don't always know the history or what you are actually taking on. It's not for everyone & that is OK!
