Humanity Over Vanity
In dog grooming, humanity over vanity means always putting your pet’s physical and emotional well-being above appearance or “perfect” looks.
It’s the choice to:
• Leave the face slightly damp instead of drying it bone-dry
• Scissor the legs for a softer finish rather than running clippers over sensitive skin
• Shave out matting instead of brushing it out aggressively
This philosophy is the result of deep knowledge, refined skill, proven technique, years of experience, and genuine compassion.
By choosing humanity over vanity, we help create a confident, trusting dog who associates grooming with positive experiences instead of fear. We never want to push a dog to its breaking point—shaking, panting, crying, pooping, biting, or vomiting from stress. That’s not grooming; that’s trauma.
Our shared goal as groomer and owner is to help the dog, not hinder them. Open communication is essential. Ask your groomer how they handle your dog’s specific needs:
• Will they hold the dog down and push through the groom?
• Will they brush until both the dog and groomer are exhausted and upset?
• Or will they slow down, offer breaks, adjust their approach, and shave matting when necessary?
The best groomers understand that a slightly less “fluffy” or “perfect” dog who leaves happy and relaxed is always better than a beautifully groomed dog who is terrified of the next appointment.
Humanity over vanity isn’t about cutting corners—it’s about doing what’s right for the dog.
