Sometimes you read a story that catches your heart. These two are located in VA and deserve a human who cares. 🩷💙
I don’t even know if finding these two a home together is within the realm of possibility.
I’ve shared their story with several families and have been met with silence or the agreement that they aren’t a good fit.
We will have no choice but to separate these two dogs VERY soon if help isn’t found.
That is going to cause sheer devastation for . I don’t even know what she would do without her brother (not actual siblings), . But what I do know is that boarding is not a solution for these dogs. They are deteriorating every day, and they need to find a foster home immediately. Every day, they’re becoming more anxious and stressed, and we cannot leave them in this environment.
Sheena and Rambo were rescued and adopted out years ago under Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue. Just a few weeks ago, their owner walked into the animal shelter and surrendered both dogs, telling the shelter they were going on a “work trip” and couldn’t keep them. I don’t believe that. We were able to get them picked up the same day and placed in a temporary home. They never left the couch. They cuddled 24/7, with Sheena being more scared to even venture outside.
These dogs are missing their family, and now they’re missing a home. They MUST find a place to go ASAP.
What I think happened is that their owners got tired of two out-of-control wild child’s. Sheena was just prescribed Trazodone today, something I hate ever having to use on dogs. Tomorrow, I’ll be taking them to our adoption event in Frederick, MD, and I’m praying they’ll be manageable and that the person I need is going to walk into my life and help these dogs.
I don’t know what their lives have been like over the past few years, but this is not working for them. They are very reactive to other dogs, the way many unruly GSDs in a pack can be. I do believe that, in the right hands, they will be fine, as both were good with other dogs before their adoption. I think they spent years in their home without any structure whatsoever, and it became too much for their owners. Who knows? I’m speculating because it’s not like they called me, despite my number being attached to their dog tags and microchips.
If someone has a basement with a couch, a home without other dogs, or experience with the breed and can help safely work with them toward becoming part of a family again, PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY.
We need serious offers only. I will take them to the event tomorrow, and if all else fails, I will shift my focus to finding urgent foster placements in separate homes.
With that said, if you’ve ever owned a GSD and seen what happens when one member of the pack walks away from the other, you know just what it’ll do to these two. When Rambo was walked inside the vet for his appointment, Sheena screamed bloody murder until she was allowed to run full speed after him.
All they want is each other. And a family to actually care about them again.
Both dogs are incredibly people-friendly and lived with children. They were A+ at the vet, other than Sheena’s antics. Both were 4DX negative and are ages 4-5.
I’ll post videos in the comments. I really do not want to rip these two apart when they are all they have left. But I will, because this boarding situation cannot continue.
