There are a few changes happening with training evaluations and booking at Riverside Canine! In the past training evaluations were done in person so there was a chance to meet you and your dog before talking about training options. Moving forward training evaluations will start with an online form! The form will ask about your dog’s history and training goals along with any concerns you would like to work on. This will help figure out which training program or package would be the best fit for you and your dog. Once the form is filled out and reviewed you will be contacted to talk about the best options and what to do next. Self booking is also turned back on through Kennel Booker! You can now submit your own booking requests. All requests must be reviewed and approved before they are officially scheduled. Sending a booking request does not guarantee your spot until it has been approved. Thank you for being patient with these changes and for continuing to support Riverside Canine!

A successful Board & Train is about more than what a dog learns while they’re with us. It’s about making sure those skills carry over into life at home! Lemon is finishing up her transfer lesson, and she and her family are doing a wonderful job. Her family has been consistent, following through, and taking an active role in her training. We’re proud of how far Lemon has come and excited to see them continue growing together!💛

A little fresh air and the freedom to just be dogs. Every Tuesday and Friday we take our Adventure Day crew out for an off leash pack walk through the trails on our Elwell property. It’s an opportunity for the dogs to explore, exercise, sniff to their heart’s content, and enjoy the outdoors. Not every day has to be about structured training. Sometimes it’s about finding that balance between giving dogs the freedom to explore and allowing them to enjoy the outdoors while still having guidance and boundaries. Kaia is officially graduating!

Kaia & her owner had an amazing last lesson and it was such a good way to finish out her training program! When she first started training she was an anxious girl who was constantly trying to guess what was coming next. She didn’t listen to her owner and had gotten pretty good at running the show. Throughout her training Kaia has learned how to slow down, stop trying to anticipate everything, & look to her owner for guidance instead. She’s become so much more confident in herself & her owner Kaia also has learned that she doesn’t have to be in control of everything. Seeing that change in her has been incredible. She has come such a long way, & we’re just as proud of her owner for putting in the work alongside her. It takes consistency from both ends of the leash & they have both come a long way. So proud of this team & everything they’ve accomplished together.

A little admin update 🐾

Coming back from vacation this past week I’ve gotten a little behind when it comes to responding to messages. I have also been having issues with my phone either not letting me send messages or not receiving them. I recently realized that all of my messages have been going to my MacBook instead of my phone and I currently have 50+ unread messages that I’m working my way through. It’s going to take me a little bit to get through everything but I am working on it and will get back to everyone. One thing I think is important to mention is that it’s just me handling the admin side of Riverside Canine. I’m also the one training the dogs, taking care of the dogs staying with me, doing lessons, cleaning, managing day to day operations, and everything else that comes with running the business. So while I’m working hard to stay on top of everything admin is definitely one of my weaker areas. It’s something I’m continually working on and trying to improve each week. I’m also working on putting an automated system in place to make it easier for everyone to get in contact with me, ask questions, and get training scheduled without everything relying on me responding manually. For now, I’m working my way through the messages I’ve missed, troubleshooting my phone, and getting caught back up on the admin side of things. I really appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and continued support. Even if it takes me a minute to get back to you I will get to everyone.

Foundations can look different for every dog but it’s really the simplest form of the expectation. Before we add all the bells and whistles like higher distractions, new environments, new people, and all that comes with it. First we want to make sure the dog understands the actual words or cues we’re using and can follow through in a low distraction setting before we level up!🐾🩵

Ben is spending the next two weeks with us for a customized Board & Train! 🐾🩵
His owners have been putting in the work with him through private lessons and now we are using this Board & Train as the next step in his training. After his two weeks here we’ll go back to private lessons with his owners to keep building on everything. Our main goals for Ben are helping him learn to settle on his own, improving his leash walking, and working on his manners around people and other dogs!

Violet and her owner have been working their way through our Fundamental Training Package! Her owner came to Riverside looking to build a clearer form of communication between the two of them and better understand how to guide Violet through everyday situations. Each lesson has focused on creating a solid understanding of communication and giving them something they can continue building on together!🐾

Lillie came to Riverside with anxiety that often made navigating everyday life difficult for both her and her owners. Her Board & Train wasn’t about changing who she is or expecting her to become fearless. It was about giving her the communication, guidance, and tools she needed to navigate the world with more confidence.
During her time with us Lillie learned the foundations of obedience and how to respond to clear communication in new environments, around people and dogs, and in everyday situations that once felt difficult. While her anxiety hasn’t disappeared, she’s learning to work through those moments rather than letting them hold her back. Confidence doesn’t mean she’s just bulldozing through life. It means she can go through life now without the fear holding her back! 🩷🐾
