āØWhy canāt I pick my own puppy? āØ
A responsible breeder will never let you just have your pick of the litter, i.e you come out and pick whichever puppy comes to you first. (Your dog didnāt choose you, thatās some Disney nonsensical bs.)
How I have always operated is that I will usually have at least a couple of choices that fit very well with your needs and wants in a dog. You would have told me what the dogās purpose is on your application. I do multiple temperament tests and evaluations during their time with me. Iām constantly observing the litter and really truly learning them and what type of placement would fit each puppy. Most times, Iāll have at least two puppies that will fit your needs. Youāll ultimately get the final decision in which puppy you get from me, but itās never a situation where you just see which puppy comes to you first.
I do this to make sure that you get the best possible match. In over 15 years, I have only ever had to take back 3 dogs. And of those 3 dogs, only one of them was due to an issue where the dog didnāt fit their lifestyle. I do it the way that I do because it makes sure the dog is in a forever home. The goal is never to have a revolving door of dogs that Iāve produced coming back to me. Will I ALWAYS welcome them back with open arms and no questions asked? Absolutely! But the goal is a forever home with a happy family and a happy dog. š
