Better walks start with good habits! 🐾 Here are six tips to help your pup master loose leash walking:

🐕 Stop when they pull. Wait for the leash to loosen before moving forward so your pup learns that pulling doesn’t get them where they want to go.

🏠 Start indoors. Practice somewhere with fewer distractions, then gradually work your way up to busier environments.

🦴 Reward a loose leash. Use a clicker or say yes when there’s slack in the leash, then follow it with a tasty treat.

🗣️ Keep them engaged. Talk to your pup during walks to help keep their attention on you instead of surrounding distractions.

🍗 Use higher-value rewards. As distractions increase, bring out more exciting treats like boiled chicken or hot dogs.

🐾 Make every walk count. Treat each walk as a training opportunity and consider other forms of exercise while your pup is still learning.

Stay patient, consistent, and celebrate the small wins. Happier walks are worth the practice! 🐶💙

🧠🐾 Work their brain, not just their body!

Enrichment can turn an everyday meal into a fun challenge for your pup. Instead of always serving breakfast or dinner in a bowl, try using an interactive toy, KONG, or snuffle mat to encourage sniffing, problem-solving, and mental stimulation while they eat. 🐶

You can get creative with what you use, too!
Kibble, carrots, cheese, strawberries, peanut butter, and commercial treats are just a few options that can make enrichment extra rewarding. 🥕🍓🧀

Every companion is different, so finding the right enrichment toy may take a little experimenting.

🐾 Stress & anxiety can show up in more ways than you might expect.

Changes in behavior like excessive panting, pacing, hiding, trembling, clinginess, changes in appetite, or unusual vocalizing can all be signs that your furry friend is feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

If your companion seems more stressed than usual, try to give them a calm, predictable environment and pay attention to what may be triggering the behavior.

If the changes are persistent, severe, or seem out of character, schedule an appointment with our Vet team so we can help rule out medical causes and talk through ways to keep your companion feeling more comfortable. 💙
