Meet the SPD Mounted Unit
Officer Billy Lyons and "Briar":
Billy began his tenure with the Sacramento Police Department 42 years ago. He started his career as an ID tech and always dreamed of becoming a mounted patrol officer someday. In 1999, Billy did just that, serving many years protecting our community with pride and dedication, while on patrol as a mounted officer. When Billy retired, he knew his work serving our community was not done! Billy currently helps out on patrol as a reserve officer and volunteers his own time towards maintaining the stables to ensure our horses are well taken care of. Our department and the City of Sacramento would not be the same without Billy. He is truly respected by his Sac PD Family. If you happen upon him out on patrol, with his iconic warm smile and charming personality, please take the time to say hi – you will be glad to you did. Thank you, Billy!
