Do you care about animals issues in Natomas & Sac?
If you do, you should pay attention to this.
A meet and greet with District 1 City Council candidate Jenn Chawla for Sacramento City Council is happening soon, and itโs an opportunity to actually have a real conversation about whatโs happening with animal services in this city.

Many of us animal advocates started trying to engage with the current Natomas D1 Councilmember Lisa Kaplan about three years ago. Requests for meetings were denied or ignored. Early on, we were told things were โfineโ at Front Street after she had a single ride along with an Animal Control Officer, despite ongoing concerns being raised by the public. Weโve also been told that because she is an attorney, sheโs confident the law is being followed, even though those of us working in this space strongly disagree and importantly her background is ๐ป๐ผ๐ in animal welfare law.
When the cityโs own shelter audit came out, raising serious issues, nearly every councilmember spoke out about it on the dais. There was ๐๐ถ๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป and District 1.
Jenn Chawla, on the other hand, has taken the time to engage with advocates, listen to concerns, and have real conversations about accountability and change.
If we want something different for animals, we must start supporting people who are willing to show up and engage.
Animal Services affects public safety, housing, the homeless crisis and animal welfare.
Come meet Jenn, ask your questions, and decide for yourself.
