Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue

Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue EIN # 88-0888840 We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are grassroots, boots-on-the-ground, shelter less, foster-based and volunteer-powered organization.

The mission of Stars and Stripes Rescue and Training Center is to rescue at risk shelter dogs and to train them to become the highest quality service dogs to military veterans suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. We will rescue dogs from Northern California high-kill animal shelters. We will also network with local rescue/shelters that might have a need to transfer dogs out of their faci

lity. We also provide free medical support for dogs of service members who are involved with Service Dog programs. We also find temporary homes for their dogs while they attend those several month-long programs. Knowing their dogs are safe and well cared for while they are away helps ensure those service members can successfully complete the programs. Dogs will complete the Canine Good Citizen™ Program and must pass the CGC Test. They will then move on to Service Dog training with the focus on PSTD skills. Once the dogs pass their “Support Dog” certification training, they will be adopted out to a fully screened applicant at no cost to them or their family. We also provide temporary housing and care (including veterinary support) for the dogs of military veterans while they participate in health care programs.

What an incredible two days at the Placer Stand Down!

The final numbers are in, and well over 500 veterans registered for this year’s event. We are truly honored to have had the opportunity to support so many veterans and their beloved dogs.

Throughout the event, we were able to provide:

🐶 Vaccines for 45 dogs
🎁 Over $3,500 worth of donated dog supplies distributed FREE to veterans and their pets

We had the privilege of meeting so many amazing veterans — including several familiar faces from last year along with many new ones. Hearing their stories, seeing their smiles, and witnessing how much these resources meant to them was incredibly moving. Many shared how grateful they were to receive support for their dogs at no cost, and moments like those remind us exactly why this mission matters.

We also want to give a huge thank you to the amazing volunteers from Blue Shield who once again showed up with compassion, kindness, and a willingness to help wherever needed. From distributing supplies to simply taking the time to listen and connect with veterans, your presence made a tremendous impact.

A heartfelt thank you as well to Spoof Dawg to the Rescue, Placer Animal Shelter, Orangevale Women’s Club, and Orangevale Food Bank for their generous donations of dog supplies. Your continued support helps us extend our reach and continue serving veterans and pets throughout our community.

We would also like to recognize our newest Advocate in Training, John W., who has already become an incredible addition to our team. Thank you for your dedication and heart for this mission.

And finally, a very special thank you to Dr. Bronwyn Signarowitz for donating her time during both days of the event to help care for the dogs of our veterans. Your generosity and compassion touched so many lives.

The 2-day event was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together in support of those who have served. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success.

Day 1 at the Placer Stand Down was nothing short of incredible.

We were honored to stand alongside so many amazing organizations and, most importantly, to serve the veterans who showed up with strength, resilience, and heart. Being able to provide dog supplies and vaccines to support both our veterans and their loyal companions was a powerful reminder of why this mission matters so deeply.

A huge thank you to the amazing volunteers from Blue Shield who showed up in a big way—donating their time, energy, and compassion to help us distribute dog supplies throughout the day. We couldn’t have done it without you.

The gratitude, the stories, the connections—today was full of moments we won’t forget.

We’re just getting started… and we’re looking forward to an even bigger Day 2.

If you’re coming out tomorrow, we can’t wait to see you.

Tomorrow we honor Dustin.

Birthdays are meant to celebrate a life—and Dustin’s life continues to do just that. Though he is no longer here in the way we wish, his spirit lives on in every act of compassion, every second chance, and every life changed through this mission.

Dustin’s legacy is not defined by loss, but by love. A love that continues to grow, to serve, and to bring people and dogs together in ways that heal, restore, and give purpose.

As we remember him on his birthday, we invite you to be part of that legacy. Whether it’s through kindness, support, or simply taking a moment to reflect—he lives on through all of us who choose to make a difference.

Happy Birthday, Dustin. Your impact is still being written every single day.

People ask us about this all the time, and as luck would have it, this arrived in my email this morning. It captures the explanation perfectly.

Dogs are becoming more present in the workplace - and not only service dogs. Understand the rules that may apply to your small business.

We are incredibly honored and grateful to share that Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue was voted 2nd Place in Orangevale’s Best – Veteran Support Organization!

What makes this even more meaningful is that last year we placed 3rd — so this recognition truly reflects the growing support from our amazing community.

This honor belongs to every volunteer, supporter, and advocate who believes in our mission to serve veterans and save dogs. We simply could not do this work without you.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you, Orangevale, for standing with us.

❤️ Cupid Crew Spreads the Love! 🌹

This Valentine’s season, Stars & Stripes Dog Rescue was honored to partner with Wish of a Lifetime through AARP to deliver over 125 Valentines and roses to two local senior communities!

One of the most special moments of the day came from our youngest volunteer, Serayah, who happened to be off school for a teacher service day. She quickly became the favorite delivery helper, and many seniors shared how touched they were to see someone so young giving her time to brighten their day. 💕

These visits weren’t just about flowers — they were about connection, kindness, and reminding our seniors they are loved and remembered.

Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make this day so meaningful. We can’t wait to spread even more smiles next year! ❤️🤍💙

🐑 Just popping in to say… THANK EWE! 🐾

Dusty, our 4-year-old German Shepherd, suited up in her finest sheep attire to send a heartfelt thank ewe to the amazing groups who helped keep our dogs and veteran owned dogs stocked with much-needed supplies.

What an incredible Sunday morning with our Battle Buddy Program and the Wounded Warrior Project!

This event was all about connection, confidence, and teamwork — and this time, our veterans brought their own dogs to participate in hands-on training and bonding activities.

Together, we worked on building trust, strengthening communication, and deepening the bond between each veteran and their loyal companion. It was inspiring to see the transformation in both handler and dog — tails wagging, smiles all around, and a shared sense of purpose that filled the park.

A huge thank you to the Wounded Warrior Project for partnering with us to support our heroes — and a special shoutout to Wyatt Craig, an Army veteran, who captured the heart of the event through his incredible candid photos of our dogs and their humans.

These Battle Buddies are more than pets; they’re partners in healing, helping veterans navigate life’s challenges with courage and unconditional love.

Four years ago, my world changed forever when I lost my son, Dustin. That loss left a hole in my heart that can't be filled, but from this deep pain emerged a beautiful mission: to honor Dustin’s memory by helping others heal, grow, and find new purpose.

Dustin’s love for life, kindness, and his special connection with animals inspire every step we take. Each dog we rescue and every veteran we support carries a piece of his spirit with us.

This nonprofit is more than just an organization—it's Dustin’s legacy in motion. Through our work, his light continues to shine, reminding me that even in the darkest moments, love creates something truly meaningful.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever part of our mission. ❤️

I’d love to hear what legacy means to you—please share your thoughts below! 💬

Day 1 of the Sacramento Stand Down was a huge success! We welcomed over 240 veteran participants and saw so many of their dogs lined up for free vaccines, wellness checks, and more supplies than we could count. The love for our veterans and their four-legged companions filled the day with gratitude and hope.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to our amazing donation sponsors — , , and — whose generosity made this possible. We certainly can't forget young Willow who did a dog supply campaign at her elementary school and brought us some amazing dog toys/supplies. Our veterans were very grateful for all the support.

We can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!
