A little Wednesday intake update post from our rehabbers at CMWR! 🐾

Our rehabbers currently have their hands full caring for baby squirrels, opossums, bunnies, foxes, a dove, and a pigeon 🐿️🦊🕊️

Different species, different stories, and a whole lot of mouths to feed! Baby season certainly isn’t over for us yet, as round 2 has just begun!

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our rehabbers and the wildlife that comes through our doors. We couldn’t do what we do without our community! 🤎

New species take in for Tyffani!

Tyffani took in a couple baby opossums from Dave with Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center! He took in a litter of 11 and wanted to share the opossum love with us. Tyffani has never cared for opossums before so this is a learning curve - opossums are not like your average small mammal and need specialized care.

Based off some research and books, these babies are roughly 10 weeks old and weigh between 50-53 grams. Neonatal opossums need to be tube fed as they cannot suckle on a syringe. These guys are at an age where we can try introducing “lap feeding” aka eating out of a bowl. So for breakfast, Tyffani tried lap feeding for the first time with these guys and they seemed to enjoy it! 🍌

The fawns menu is starting to look a lot more like it would in the wild 🦌🌿

Providing fresh, natural browse gives these growing fawns the opportunity to practice normal feeding behaviors as they prepare for release this fall! Maple leaves are everyone’s favorite 🍁

Little update 🦫

Remember this little girl who was hit by a car last week? Miraculously while under Tyffani’s care, her recovery is going much better than expected!

The swelling in her face has started to come down and she has both of her eyes open again! As most of you know, groundhogs love to eat…. well this girl has been eating up a storm since her appetite came back! While we aren’t out of the woods 100% yet, we are going in the right direction with recovery.

We do have some concern with one of her eyes. Since she has opened it, the eye is cloudy, and she doesn’t react when we wave a hand in front of it, so she may have lost vision in that eye. With the amount of trauma and swelling she had to her face after being hit by a car, it’s unfortunately not surprising that she may have suffered damage to her vision.

For a little girl who was hit by a car just days ago, we are very happy with how well she is recovering. She continues to surprise us everyday! 🤎

Late night take in!

Tyffani got a call for a juvenile female woodchuck likely hit by a car this evening.

Thankfully her finder, Lynn, got her safely out of the road, placed her in a box, and started searching for someone who could help.

Upon intake - this little girls face is very swollen and has blood coming from her nose indicating head and facial trauma. For now, she is being kept warm, quiet, and comfortable while some pain & antibiotic meds kick in.

Thank you Lynn for stopping and giving this little girl a second chance. 🤎🦫

We have a very special birthday today - Tonya!! 🎉🥳

Tonya is the founder and president of our beautiful, growing nonprofit CMWR.

What started with a love for wildlife at an incredibly young age has grown into something that has touched so many lives throughout our community. Because of her dedication, countless animals have been given a second chance, people have learned to better understand and protect our wildlife, and a group of rehabbers has found a safe place to work together toward the same mission.

But behind everything she has built is simply a person with a really big heart — someone who answers the calls, shows up when she’s needed even when she’s exhausted, supports the friends and family around her, and gives so much of herself to animals that will never be able to thank her. There are some people who leave a mark everywhere they go, and Tonya is one of them.

Tonya, your impact is bigger than you probably realize. We are incredibly lucky to have you leading us, and even luckier to call you our mentor and friend.

Please help us wish her the happiest birthday!
