AKC Labrador Color Standards Plain and Simple
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Labradors are recognized in only three colors:
Black
Yellow (this includes light cream to dark fox red)
Chocolate
That’s it.
Fox red is not a separate color it is simply a darker shade of yellow under AKC standards.
Very light creams are also yellow, not a different color. Color alone does not determine quality, health, or correctness.
What matters most to AKC is:
Structure
Temperament
Soundness
Breed type
Color is secondary.
Extreme shades of yellow from cream to fox red are all AKC-recognized and correct.
Preserving the breed standard means honoring health, structure, and purpose.
