Dean O’s Animal Sanctuary, formerly, Consulting and Rescuing Equine - CARE

Dean O’s Animal Sanctuary, formerly, Consulting and Rescuing Equine - CARE Dean O’s Sanctuary in remembrance of my brother. Last year, 2025 was the end of our nonprofit rescue.

Continuing without him has been hard so I decided to dissolve the nonprofit, and focus on caring for the sanctuary horses, dogs and goats.

Please help pay for Dakota’s vet bills. How can we refuse to help an animal in pain? I can’t!! But I don’t have the funds to do it ALONE!

🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴💔💔💔💔🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
This was Dakota’s last breakfast so she got lots of all her favorites.

Dakota was rescued by CARE in 2022 with her stall mate, a Donkey named Curly. Both were from BLM, both were once wild. Then rounded up, sold at auction and loved for many years until the owner died.

The widow was not able to provide even minimal care. They both had lesions on their faces from tears and flies. Both were skinny and not fed regularly. Neither trusted me at first but warmed up quickly. Curly was very loving and inquisitive. She died last year at about 30 years old. Dakota followed her today and was about the same age. Dakota was always independent, smart and showed her gratitude often.

The Veterinarian diagnosed Dakota with cancer last month. She had a good day when the weather dropped but her struggle was getting harder. I couldn’t let her suffer.

She is reunited with Curly and the others that are holding down the ranch in heaven.

If there’s a Heaven, there’s definitely horses there!!

Please PayPal me if you can help cover the costs.

It’s a hard decision but I can see that it’s the end of the trail for Dakota. She is struggling to survive the grip that cancer has on her.

I can see her days are getting harder for her and it’s almost time to help her run free. 💔 I’ve been crying all day. She’s such a special horse.

I hope you can find it in your heart to help.

I’m trying to gather funding for the inevitable additional costs for Veterinary, estimated to be $450. and burial estimate $350.
🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴

Update: $55.00 has been donated so far for Dakota’s end of life care. Goal is $2500. Will be needed to cover, Veterinary treatment, extra feed, medications, supplements, Veterinary euthanasia, and burial (when it’s that time ) 😢🐴

For now:
Dakota is doing better with antibiotics. The Veterinarian recommended we switch to Alfalfa Cubes to make it easier for her to chew. She gets a bunch of hay in her mouth then has to spit it out. With cubes it slows her down and seems easier for her to eat.

Dakota is very anemic from the cancer. Other veterinarian instructions were to give her antibiotic’s, ‘Red Cell’ supplement and electrolytes.

The costs are adding up and Dakota needs more alfalfa cubes and senior feed to sprinkle with antibiotics.

I can’t cover these costs without your help. Without the public’s help. The public that relies on rescues like mine. Please don’t abandon us now!

Dakota, a 30+ year old Mustang mare hasnt been feeling herself so the Veterinarian came out on Monday.

Considering her age and symptoms the vet put her on antibiotics and ordered blood work. Sadly, Dakota has cancer.

Our goal is to keep her comfortable and provide whatever she needs in this last run of her life. That’s going to be costly endeavor but it’s what she deserves.

Dakota was surrendered to CARE in 2022. She belonged to a widow in her 80’s that just couldn’t provide care or afford feed. Dakota had been living in a 12x10 stall with Curly, a senior Jenny Donkey. They were both in bad shape and both blossomed and thrived with proper care, feed and exercise. Curly crossed on to greener pastures in 2025. She was a joy.

Now it’s time to help Dakota! You can help by sending a gift of $ cash $ by PayPal or message for mailing address.

Estimated end of life care and send off will be $850.-$2500.
